Good afternoon,

day one of the new dose of 1.25 IU. Binie was hiding the whole night in a corner of the room. I got up before her fasting time and she was eating well. Before her shot she refused to eat her low carb at all but ate her high carb with a good appetite. Even though she went down quickly.

I was a bit nervous because the libre was ending at +5 and because of her hiding I couldn't install a new one yesterday. So I had to take my chance when she was coming out for a moment and lay down on an easier spot. Thank god I am still not working today, so I could react quickly and install it.

Her ketones went a little down over night, maybe because I was offering lots of water during the night. At AMPS it was 0.4 mmol/dl, at 5.57 it was 0.3 mmol/dl.

I'm biting my nails because I am urgently waiting for the lab results and an e-mail from my vet, how to go on. She is clearly unwell and needs some form of treatment. It is heartbreaking to see her in these strange corners. On the other hand she is very awake when she hears me rattling with her snack box and responds quite normal. That gives me a little hope, that she can turn the corner.

At four I will call the vet and ask if they can do anything about getting the results quicker. I know it is annoying but I will try. I already called IDEXX but they won't give me any information on the phone.

Hope everyone is having a nice day! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Heike, I see Binie took a little dip to blue today. But then she went back up.
Good job with the Libre installation.
What I have been doing for many months now is installing the Libre on day 12 (if I get to that point) and then activating it on day 13 (instead of trying to get 14 days out of a sensor).
So if for some reason, the current active sensor quits on day 12 or 13 all I have to do is scan, the new one and I’m up and running immediately with the one hour delay.
It’s been working well so far. Just a thought. That way if you can’t get her out of a corner on day 13 or day 14, you’re already ready to go.
But of course do what you think is best!! I support you and you know Binie best

I hope you get results and answers soon from the lab. And I hope both of you feel better. You’re sound such a wonderful job caring for her with such close attention to all details.
(Great news the ketones went down, too!)
Sending love and hugs :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Update: I can't believe what is happening. I called the vet to hear if they have any news from the urine test, the one which was taken directly from the bladder. Same result as the ones I was catching freely: Mixed flora. :banghead: I thought I would get an antibiotic tonight or tomorrow to help Binie deal with all this. Now it takes another two days to isolate the bacteria from the mixed flora. I was not talking to the vet directly but the vet tec and she said this is highly unusual. Binie is still hiding in strange places. I don't know what to do. In 1.5 hours I will measure her ketones. I hope they didn't go up.

Thank you so much for you moral support Staci! Being frustrated is not the worst. Being helpless is. Binies behaviour with sitting in strange places let me wonder if she is in pain. I want to help her but I don't see a way out so far. I have a vet appointment tomorrow and I wonder what her suggestions are. Everything we do seems to provoke extreme reactions in Binie. I don't want to torture her but also want her to have a fair chance, to overcome her condition and get well again. If she could only talk.....

And everything is so strange. Starting with what was going on in her breast and now these strange results, which seem to be totally unusual. The older vet is so experienced, she is treating hundreds of cats each month since almost 30 years. And she told me that she is hesitant now to do something with Binie, because her body reacts in all these strange ways.

I know some people would give their cat in a clinic now for further diagnostics but one part of me feels, that this is all too much for her. And another part of me is scared, to take away that chance from her.

Thats how Binie spent part of her morning today. It really breaks my heart:

Oh poor Binie. I hope she’s not still behind the radiator :(
I think you have to just do whatever you can to see if you can get things to turn around. Keep asking questions both here and of your vet.
(Don’t forget you can post general questions on the Main Forum here too.
Maybe other people have seen some of these issues and have ideas. You could copy and paste a post about the urine questions).

I know you are feeling helpless but you’re doing so much to help Binie every single day. I know it’s overwhelming. It’s a lot to try to handle and tackle.
Just take it one day at a time. And handle what you can each day. That’s all you can do. And you’re doing such a great job every day.

I’m sending you many prayers, hugs and support. I wish there was more I could do to help, Heike. I’m here for you :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Staci,

thank you so much for sharing your libre experience! I already noticed that you let the libre "marinate" for one night and that's why I wanted to do it yesterday and to activate it today. But Binie had other plans.... Is there a reason, you don't try to get the full 14 days? Is your experience they fail earlier or have more errors?

I am always happy to get the full 14 days out of the sensor because they are so costly in Germany. We don't get discounts and one is 70 Euro/78 Dollar. But if you think they are not so reliable on day 14 I may have to rethink. But applying them one day earlier is such a good idea. Without you I wouldn't have known about that.

I hope you have a relaxing evening. I see Ivy is having another interesting curve today with a late cycle dip! I send you hugs! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Staci, thank you so much about reminding me to use the main forum. I will do that tomorrow evening after we came back from the vet and I have a full picture. I just talked everything through with a friend, who helped me to work out questions for the vet.

Binie left her strange places and is sitting in her cat bed on the terrace now. I hope that is a good sign.

Your support means so much to me Staci! You have such a kind way, to lead my thinking in a good direction. Thank you so much! I hope you have a calm night and you can sleep in your bed! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Heike, yes I’ve had times where it gave weird readings on day 14 (plus I had read it “can” be unreliable). So I just thought let me try to avoid an entire day of possible problems.
I’ve a look so bad it shut down on the last day early.
But if you are getting good result, that’s great!!
And yes, sadly you are paying more than we are so I understand trying to keep it going as long as possible.
I just keep trying different things to see what works best (and sharing what I find in case it may help you).
I know you’re trying to do the marinate idea. But sometimes our cats have other ideas, don’t they!!

One time I installed the libre a day early to marinate. Then 2 hours later her current libre just shut off. (She was having a very “Lo” cycle that day).
So I just went and activated the new one. It was already on her. (Whew!).

With every sensor I say a lot of prayers (and I’m not religious!). Lol.

I’m glad she sounds like she may be feeling better and is in her cat bed.
Glad your friend helped you today with some questions. That’s nice to have someone to talk it over with.
Wishing you very good luck at the vet tomorrow. Keep us posted!!!! Many prayers :bighug::bighug::bighug:
