Good evening,

since yesterday afternoon, I have been away for work most of the time. Yesterday evening the catsitter gave the shot and everything went very well. She even cuddled with Binie. I am so relieved, they like each other. :bighug::cat::bighug:

This morning went quite unexpected. I got up at 5:30 am the first time to give her a little snack and than put everything away for fasting. She ate everything with appetite. When I got up I saw that she had puked her snack. Before her injection time she drank water and puked everything out. Oh my.... When I tried to feed her she refused her lc and only licked the gravy of the hc wet food.

I was quite alarmed and didn't know how to go on with the insulin. Because I had to leave the house and didn't know what was going on, I decided to shoot but not the full dose of 1.25 IU. So I gave her .5 IU. When I came home for lunchtime, she was eating again with a normal appetite, also tonight. So the reduction was completely unnecessary. :banghead: I don't know what is going on with her stomach. I gave her healing earth two times today. I hope that helps.

She had three high cycles now in mostly pink, some red and yellow. :( The ss just shows colours today, as I still have trouble with the reader (the Iphone I wanted to use didn't scan at the vet). I really hope we see some better numbers tonight but so far she didn't go down much.

Two more days away from home. I hope we will manage a little more smoothly the next days.

I hope everyone has a safe and relaxed evening with their kittys! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Oh no Heike. I’m sorry so much went on today that was very difficult. Too many challenges for one day.
I’m glad the pet sitter went well.
Hoping Binie’s stomach feels better.
Does she normally puke overnight? Need a snack overnight for acid issues? Some cats seem to have that.

That sucks about the iPhone not scanning properly. Is the model compatible with the sensor? (I’m sure you already checked that out).
Are you using the reader instead for this sensor?

I’m sure her numbers are high today from The reduced dose this morning. It will take several days to rebalance the depot.

I know you are working so hard to manage all the challenges for Binie. Just want to tell you that you’re doing a great job with it all. I know it’s difficult. :cat:
Sending you a big hug and hoping tonight is peaceful and the next few days are easier, especially since you must be out of the house.

Hi Staci,

Binie was always a cat who rarely puked. It all started three weeks ago and most of the time she puked only water. That she puked food was new. Two month ago we had the problem that she started to eat cat litter and the vet said that this could be a sign for a gastritis. I treated that with omeprazol and maybe she took it too long and there was a rebound-effect that she produces too much acid now. But these are only my speculations. I don't know if you know healing earth in the US but here people and animals take it to help with too much stomach acid. So I tried that to help her and the last days it seemed better. What worried me most today was, that she had zero appetite in the morning. But thank god she is back to normal again. It just makes me sad to see her high numbers and I am always scared of ketones if I give not enough insulin.

The IPhone is an IPhone X, which Abbott says is compatible. Maybe I was not patient enough with scanning, as I tried it at the vet and I didn't wanted to interrupt their schedule because it took so long. So I just scanned the reader quickly, I had with me as a backup. Next time I'll try to scan the sensor when we are back in the car and I can take my time.

Thank you so much for your encouragement and your kind words Staci! It helps so much on days like this. Everything feels so fragile at the moment. One day she eats fine and is well, the next one it is a struggle. And every day we have to make medical decisions, even though we are no vets. That is really weighing me down sometimes. And it sucks I feel guilty, leaving the house for my work.

Sending you lots of hugs too! Hope you have a beautiful day and good night! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I know how you feel. And there are so many people here that feel the same. It’s good you are here so you can get the emotional support you need, Heike.

I’m very happy to be here for you.
And you are so helpful and kind to me as well. Thank you for always being so uplifting, despite what you are going through :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I hope It was just a one bad day today and that Binie will fully recover. Poor girl.

Your iPhone is newer than Ivy’s so it should work. Maybe it was being in a hurry that didn’t work. I’m glad you had that reader with you. Very smart to have a backup plan. Great thinking!!

And you can’t feel guilty for leaving the house for work because it’s something you have to do. You just set everything up as best you can and you’re doing such a great job doing that. Just take one day at a time because that’s all we can do.

I hope you have a good night and both of you have a good rest, sending you hugs :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Heike, you are doing a great job! I know how hard it is to make these decisions but we do the best we can to help our babies. We can only use our best judgement. I would have done the same thing knowing I was going to be gone. Don’t be so hard on yourself.

Tiger has tummy troubles as you know. He gets those watery acidic throw ups when he goes too long without eating. He also has an on and off appetite. I’m hoping that maybe the teeth had something to do with that. After he throws up he seems better and ready to eat. I guess they get rid of what ever is bothering them and they are ready to eat.

I hope your next 2 days go smooth! Try not to worry!

@Staci & Ivy @Deb and Tiger

Thank you so much Staci and Deb for your kind words and your support! It makes such a huge difference, not to feel alone on days like this. :bighug::bighug::bighug: A few weeks ago someone in this forum wrote about the idea of a rehab for stressed out surgar-kitty-mums. It would be so much fun, to meet you there!

Binie didn't throw up and ate well today. Her numbers are not great but feeding high carb in the morning and with the reduced shot this is no surprise. One more day to go and then I will be back home again to monitor.

I hope you both have a relaxed evening and a good night! :bighug::cat::bighug:

Hi Heike :)
Well done on keeping Binie safe. You made the right choice not taking chances when you're not sure what's going on and you're not at home to monitor.
When was the last time Binie had a check up and blood work?
With food puke I normally pay more attention as it can be a symptom of a few things such as gut issues or kidney issues.
I'll tag @Wendy&Neko, @tiffmaxee and @Angela & Cleo perhaps they can ask you some questions to guide you through and see what could be the reason she started vomiting lately.

When Fistuk vomits he normally loses his appetite for a while but regains it quite quickly once he released what bothered him. I'm happy that Binie ate well for you when you came back home.
Wishing you a wonderful Furriday :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thank you Shelly! :bighug::bighug::bighug:The last bloodwork was in may, when she was in the clinic because of ketones. But we have to do one in the next weeks anyway, as we have to control her hypothyreosis treatment. So far I will continue with the healing earth and make sure, she doesn't fast too long. Thank god her appetite is quite well at the moment but I noticed she doesn't eat much if I don't feed her by hand. Doesn't make things easier.... Hope you have a peaceful night! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I’m so glad Binie didn’t puke today, Heike. I was hoping for this good update.
Yes it would be great to have a retreat for all of us to meet. That would be really great. We already have so much in common, our love of our sweet kitties

Safe surfing to you and Binie:bighug::bighug::bighug:

All I can suggest is to keep a "vomit log". Include date, time of day, what it looked like, and what food she had been eating that day. Plus anything else that might seem relevant. The vet may like to see it. My vet wanted a copy of mine. I found it could be helpful when trying to pinpoint food allergies.

If you get blood work, you might want to ask for a GI panel as well, testing things like B12 levels. It's not usually part of the standard blood panel.

Thank you so much Wendy! It's a good idea to write things down a bit more in detail. I didn't think about food allergies so far. And I will ask for a GI panel and the B12 levels. I didn't even know, a GI panel existend. I will give an update after the test! :bighug::bighug::bighug:
