If you are going to be around to monitor, I would definitely say to shoot the full .5u amount now. She's probably gone up now that it's been a half an hour late.

She's same/ 1 point lower. I'm going to ahead and feed her and decide from there I guess.
 
I just keep strange hours. I think what I'll do unless told otherwise is give her a smaller dose than .5. She's doing SO well and feeling so good I don't want to skip too often. I wish I was confident, but I've only been at this for a week. I'll stay up with her and check every 2 hours.
 
Did you change her diet? If yes, was it before or after starting insulin? Sometimes kitties only need a diet change but vet's always seem to rush right into giving insulin. Hopefully Snits comes down nice and pretty soon she will be OTJ! :)

Yes! Before she was getting dry and wet. I tried to feed her just wet but she wasn't having it. Now it's just wet because she's feeling good enough to not be weird about food. That would be great if she goes OTJ! I've wondered over the last few days if maybe she just needs to be diet controlled. I don't want to get my hopes up, but we'll see.

I live in Oregon. It's 4am, I'm just an early riser due to being a caretaker for my mom. I'd like to eventually push her back to 6am/pm. My name is Steph. Thank you so much for being here for me!
 
:eek: . Try and keep Snit a little hungry by not feeding too much at once so that you can give a small tsp or two in the first half of the cycle.
Snit has been flat (meaning barely any fluctuations in BG) since pm +7.
Do you think you can get a +1?

Hi Steph! I'm Heather. Glad to see Angela is here now. She is WAYYYY more qualified to help out than me. I'll peek back later to see how it's going. Hoping the reduction from .75 to .25 does well for Snits. :)
 
In the beginning, we test so that we can get an idea of insulin onset, nadir and duration. We're also looking to get data on food bumps (usually seen at +1/+2) and carb sensitivity. It's a lot of information :bookworm: but helps to keep our kitties safe :cat:.

Keep in mind that when you're shooting, low number or not, your cat is at the end of the insulin cycle. In addition, it takes Lantus a couple of hours for onset. On top of that, you're feeding your cat. All of that factors in to buffer shooting lower numbers.

Just a reminder. With SLGS, you want to do a curve once a week. A curve means you test every 2 hours. I'm less rigid about asking for a curve if you are routinely getting more than 4 tests per day (AMPS, PMPS and one test during both the AM and PM cycles). Remember, Lantus dosing is based on how low the insulin drops the numbers.

Thanks so much for the info! I was planning on doing a curve monday at my .75 dose. It would have been a week out, but since I skipped and did a furshot was planning on doing it wednesday. Now that snits has earned her .5 reduction (which I will do from now on if her BG Is above 90, right?) should I hold this dose for a week or do a curve each week regardless of changes in doses? I probably could have given her the .5 today but I was too scared. Glad I went with the .25. Thanks everyone for holding my hand through this!

On your spreadsheet when you don't test on the hour you can put it like this on your spreadsheet in the +4 cell
120 @4.5 then you will need to color code it manually :cat:
.5 means a half hour
.25 means 15 minutes
.75 means 45 minutes

okay ty!! I try to test on the hour but today I just wanted to be exact. When this happens I will do that! She's still doing great, sat on a chest near a window and looked outside for hours and tried to swat at stuff through the screen - her normal behavior. :)
