Things are just crazy here. As I posted in yesterday’s thread, I am Leary of giving the clindamycin after reading up on it. Kind of scary.
Last night Tiger took a steep drop and the libre failed because of it. The sensor stayed off for 2 hours. All starting as I was about to drift off to sleep. Hubby has an overnight trip today so he needed his sleep to get up at 4am. I went to sleep finally after he left….got about 3 hours!
My neice is staying over to help me with Tiger and doing Matt’s job filling the syringe and giving the injection Hubby showed her a few times how to do it but doing it on her own this morning, she was having a hard time filling it to 2.75. I told her to make it “skinny” rather than going over to be safe, especially with Tiger not eating great because of his teeth. I’m not much help as I have a hard time seeing the numbers as well. It’s only today and tomorrow so I think we’ll be ok. More than I can say about the libre, which I worry will completely fail at any time.

she and I may try to get him to the vet for a replacement today.we’ll see how it acts this morning while she’s at work.
Mean while I’m having a hard time walking as my ankle is giving me so much pain.!

seems like when it rains it pours around here, all to add up to so much stress on little sleep! Poor Tiger in the middle of all this!

I hope everyone is having a much better day than I am!

I saw your comment about Clindamycin. Neko was on it twice, and I've even been on it myself. :blackeye: Other than GI upset, it does work well on dental infections. Where did you read that most vets have stopped prescribing it? I have read that the liquid is better and it should be given with food.

https://www.uptodate.com/contents/p...onger recommended,other antibiotic agents [2].

It’s under the heading, Antibiotic selection.

I’ve read many places about how it has severe side effects. With Tiger already taking cerenia and his tummy, it worries me.
I contacted the vet and asked for an alternative. If they don’t have a substitute, I will definitely get the probiotic before I use it. Thanks for the info on that. Maybe I’m just being too cautious but I don’t want to add to his problems.

Cats are not little people. I was looking for something saying vets not longer prescribe it, as I've seen a few people here lately with kitties on it.

Hi Deb, I am sorry last night was so exhausting! I know how unsettling it is if the sensor shows just error. And I know the fear, the sensor might give up before time. I really hope your ankle gets well soon. Sounds like all a bit too much. I keep my fingers crossed tomorrow will be better! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

My mistake, I thought it was pertaining to cats as it came up in my search for cat side effects. I guess I’m a bit scattered juggling too many balls here.
The vet called and will substitute metronidazole instead. Side effects for that are loss of appetite. Not sure that’s any better. I asked for amoxicillin but she went with metronidazole insisting that she didn’t think an antibiotic would do any good anyway? There is infection so why wouldn’t it help until we can get his teeth done in a month(soonest available). Maybe I’m just going crazy but I would think if we knock back the infection, he would feel a bit better. I feel we need to try…

Thanks Heike! Sensors always pick the worst times to act up!

I don't like giving metronidazole at all. Metronidazole can disrupt the gut biome for weeks and cause disbiosis. I hope it doesn't impact Tiger that way.
Oh that’s not good. We’re actually trying to find the probiotic locally to use with the clindamycin.
