I posted last week for advice on how to transition my new foster, Rosemary, onto a low carb diet when she's already been on kibble + (not always very consistent) insulin for a while. I'm pleased and surprised that testing her is going much better than expected. I think the combination of a consistent insulin schedule and quiet space is making her feel better and it's gotten easier to test her in the few days I've had her.
I started offering her Fancy Feast pate in addition to her kibble two nights ago (after 3 days on kibble only to get a baseline) and again, pleased and surprised...it's going pretty smoothly. She eats the pate when I offer it to her and is eating less of the kibble as a result. Her BGs are dropping from a lot of 400s to more 300s since I started introducing the wet so I'm hoping we keep a gradual drop as I offer her more and more LC wet.
For her weight, I want to eventually offer her 3.5 to 4 of the small cans a day. My loose plan (pending BG results):
Just want to confirm...I hope this question makes sense... Food/carb intake doesn't really have a depot the way insulin does, right? That's more of a short term thing that gets processed?
Obviously I'm going to change this plan if her blood sugar starts dropping too low but please let me know if anyone sees any major concerns/risks with the way I'm handling the transition. Thanks!

- 1/2 can wet at each shot time for 4 cycles (already did this)
- 1 can wet at each shot time for 4-6 cycles (started this tonight)
- 1 can @ shot + 1/2 can snack a few hours later for 4-6 cycles
- Eventually getting to the same schedule I have my other sugarcat Pete on which is 1 can @ shot, 1/2 can snacks at +3 and +6 (or maybe +2 and +4 if she responds better to that)
