6/3 Pudge AMPS 275/257 +6 193 +9 284 PMPS 287 +3 300 +7 259

317/287.. understand don't maybe need to test twice (ty! would like to save strips.. *cries), but for the SS, there is a difference in 200s and 300s.. (colors anyway..) I just put the 287. :) his little ear seems a little inflamed from testing, tried moving it up the ear.. today he's not feeling too good I don't think. idk. this is challenging.. he's beautiful tho. and I see he's still in there.. but not feeling well sometimes. :( not much playing.. his nose is a bit stuffy again and im not sure if he can see as well as he usually does. but we're trying over here. it does feel like a marathon.. it'll be almost 2 months soon and its felt like a slog lately. cause the Lantus confuses me. so happy he's on it.. but I am confused. just observing. I just truly, really wish we had been on Lantus to begin with.. to have had more of a head start, regulating at least would not have taken so long ideally.. because he's really sensitive and I feel like its taken a toll on us both the length of time already... but we're here.. tbh maybe needed to get used to things before doing the long acting.. idk. and again so glad he's on the Lantus but I know its early to judge anything yet.. but im seeing it taper off too, that what happening?.. but know the depot needs to build.

getting better at shot times.. Pudgles tho growled at me and was trying to get down but I had to stop him and give him his shot.. and turns out he had to go to bathroom. :blackeye: pretty sure he ate enough prior to shot (how much is enough??).. but im always nervous. he ate more after. and just ate more now.. preparing the routine is more smooth. ALSO.. think have cracked it some with the damn bubbles:
when you have the syringe, and have withdrawn your amount, gently move what bubbles you can around, then pull it down a UNIT or a bit more, so it's empty up top and the bubble is mixed with the air, then eye the syringe and raise the plunger SLOWLY, making sure to keep the syringe upright, and the bubble should push right out with all the air as it goes up... like a charm. im definitely going to try this method again going forward, tonite was smooth as nothing else.. hoping this will also save insulin!! @Shell :woot:

anyway thanks for listening.

Woohoo, first blue on Lantus! Less than a week on Lantus too. Neko saw her first blue on day 7 of Lantus, and then I found out her meter was registering too low so had to switch meter types.

I'd skip the multiple PS tests unless you really question the number. 317/287 are within meter variance and make no difference on how we'd change the dose. And honestly, I'd rather see the actual number than a guesstimate. Plus you'll get to save his ears some pokes.

Wow! Good call!!! Sounds like a great way to eliminate the bubble. I usually dish out a quarter can of Fancy Feast just to be sure he's got something to work on while the insulin is taking effect at the start of a cycle. He may eat a half or more of that. Then I come in with a small dash of Tiki Cat Sardine Cutlet, but I chop it up with a fork because the chunks are huge. That usually re peaks his interest and he'll enjoy a few more licks. It's not alot, but at least a decent snack sized meal for him. He is also a dry food grazer. There's a big cat family and dry is out at all times.

You are perfect. Starting out at 1 and working your way through. I've had it where one day the depot seems to overflow and it all flushes out and the numbers go down. Then, I'm giving snacks to slow it down. That happens if it falls more than 20% at +2.

One thing I was uncertain about was - do we perform the curve after day 7 or day 10. Pudge just started Lantus, so I didn't know if you had a curve plan at day 7 or 10. I am a little foggy as to how that should go, just starting out. I know I'm doing mine after 7 days. I hope someone here on the forum can clarify :)

exactly.. well. cause i read here for SLGS..that you do the curve after a week.. but then that means theres a day 8 for that right?.. to determine dose then? hm. :bookworm: idk. and oh no.. so many pokes for a curve.. not looking forward to it. :blackeye:

Yes. 8 days.

Here, they said SLGS curve is done after 7 days. My Vet had me start at 10. However again, some forum members probably know better than me because they do have a lot more experience with it. Since I am familiar with some management of Pumpkin's diabetes, I am a little more comfortable at the 7 day mark, for now. When the depot fills, it tends to fill for me. And, I may even have scaled back a couple of times.

But, as for the ear pricking, I assure you it does become better. I remember when I first started doing curves on Pumpkin (AMPS and every 2 hours after through PMPS, at least) I felt so bad seeing red little ears. But, since he's been diagnosed until later on now, I don't find much redness at all. I don't know why, except for maybe the technique becomes easier?

right? looked to be so. Things is tho im not sure if should bother w doing one cuz i know it needs increasing.. and it was suggested here on the forum to START at 1.5 U.. 1.75 U even i think. so it saves me the trouble of doing one rn.. esp since im not sure i can be home to do this all day tmw. might just go ahead and increase.. :/ idk. Vet suggested increase to 1.5 U also.. also because 1.25 is hard to do.. sigh.

Doing my best to make testing easy and enjoyable.. he gets lots of treats and it sometimes isnt so bad its true. :cat: Good to hear it does.. its gotten a lot easier, just feel bad about the pokes. :(

I have a magnifying glass that I use to eye the doses. If you see what 1.5 is, you can then get an idea of what 1.25 is. My secret is good lighting, reading glasses, magnifying glass :)

If you need to decrease the dose, pay attention to the tiny droplet coming out of the top. Not the plunger. I adjust by focusing on the drop and then the plunger to see if it looks right.

oh my! cool! lol ok.. just my syringes you know the plungers suck. :/ do feel tho like in this instance another .5 might be it.. WILL try to do .25 if need after.. but also idk will see. ugh.

You may be right. Oh, I gotta tell you.... my Vet warned that we will never increase more than .25 at a time. I was in the same place wanting to bump that dose up quick. But, Pumpkin's numbers were up in the 4 and 500's. I was constantly calling my Vet.

What's 7 days? Perhaps just figure, you can always go up after letting the increase do it's work. I totally understand because I wanted to bump it up quick too, but the Vet strongly advised me to pace it. :)

right! no exactly.. just what I've heard and what's said here (.25 increases.. my vet tho is like that's hard idk will see.).. but I was advised by 3-4 members HERE that I was starting too low anyway.. should have started at 1.5 to begin with.. so im thinking just do it.. I want to go slow for sure. don't want anything eventful. but.. idk. im deciding. :/ and let me tell you so much is going on rn idk what.. and im low on food. so much on my mind and didn't realize. and he's eating a lot.. a few cans a day rn..

also.. when it comes to Lantus, when you settle on a time, its pretty much within 15 min before/after the leeway you have right? :) @Shell

From the times I've learned from my Vet, probably no more than 30 minutes after AM or PM food. And from what I understand, if circumstances make it so that it's no more than an hour late, it's fine. But, I've always tried to stay tight with the schedule. Honestly, I do sometimes have a variance of a half hour or so. IE- 9am to 9:30am dose. But I try to stay consistent unless something comes up.

oooh!! great to know yess.. :cat::cat: within an hour IF must is great to know too.. but am likewise, best to keep it on time as much as possible so things are continuous. if time is also say usually 8:15.. then ideally no earlier than 8.. no later than 8:30? (within 15 min before, within 15 min after?..) :woot:

(also no increase today.. lots of things come up. will try tmw. and also need to see on dose.. talked to vet and remember they want to only increase during day so he can be supervised best.. they want to see how much the nadir lowers (since he's sometimes low 200s.. they're nervous) and then only 1 again at night cause im asleep.. not sure tho cause understand its best to have it the same on Lantus AM/PM.. yikes. idk. :) )
