Good afternoon,

after a very high night we saw some yellow again. Binie ate a little in the morning before the shot but it is still a struggle. I had to give her the high carb royal canin again to make her eat. I didn't measure the ketones because yesterday evening and today I did not get enough blood and she was not cooperative. I will try again tonight but I will give insulin first because even that gets more difficult.

Looking at her numbers I think I should go up to 3.25 tomorrow if she doesn't see any blue below 150 in the next cycle. Right? I am a bit scared she will go down quickly when the (still undiagnosed) pancreatitis heals but I think looking at her bg and the problem with the ketones it is worth to take the risk.

I had e-mail contact with the vet today. She said usually the litter eating is associated with two problems: either anemia or gastritis. She thinks the last one is more likely if she looks at the last blood test from the clinic. So I will pick up some omeprazol tonight to help with the gastritis and also some b-vitamins as her haematocrit is low even if it is not anemia. On friday we planned to do another blood test anyway because she is due to control her thyroid hormons, than we can check the haematocrit again.

I was very worried Binie may get a bowel obstruction because of the clumping litter. This morning she pooped quite normal again so this was a relief. I promised myself to never go back to the clumping litter. The woodchips are perfectly fine and I can even flush them in the toilet. So much more convenient!

Hope everyone is having a beautiful afternoon! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Which Royal Canin food is she eating? Neko snacked on the World's Best corn litter. Which is clumping. She didn't have any side effects other than high BG. I did change to a different type of litter though.

I do think she needs an increase, even though the depot was disrupted with the skip and reduced dose. You had enough data before then to say this dose is not enough.
also some b-vitamins as her creatinin is low even if it is not anemia
I don't understand this. You look at hematocrit (HCT) to see if they are anemic. You might want to think about using the Labs tab on the spreadsheet to enter Binie's lab results. I find it useful to track trends over time. Even the non diabetics now get a labs spreadsheet here.

Thank you so much Wendy! I will increase to 3,25 IU tomorrow. Good to hear that Neko was safe with the corn litter. Binie had to had two enemas the last two weeks becaue she couldn't poop. The betonit becomes like clay and I read that it can cause dangerous problems.

Before Binie got diagnosed she got a bit of Royal Canin Fibre response every day as she was constipated sometimes. I kept the package after the diagnosis and I give it if nothing else gets in. It is definitely too much carbs but the last days it safed us.

Oh... I saw a made a mistake. Of course I mean hematocrit, I just mixed it up. Her creatinin is just fine... Yes, I will put the data of the blood tests down the next days. And it is a good idea to track trends. I tested her the last years quite regularly.

Hope you have a nice evening! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Good luck with the increase, Heike. I hope Binie eats better and I’m sending you lots of support and prayers. I know you are worried and I’m with you in support.

Glad the new litter is working out well. Good news.

I hope that the meds will help her feel better. You’re doing such an incredible job taking good care of her.

Hope you two have a restful night :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thank you so much Staci! :cat: I gave her the omeprazol for the first time now and I am curious, if this changes anything. Tonight I feel optimistic again her issues can be managed. Hope you have a beautiful day and hopefully a calm night after all that action last night! I hope Ivy is well! :bighug::bighug::bighug:
