[Bella & Puddin]

Puddin must have dropped to a new low last night (or his 185 during the day was the low) and I'm assuming he's bouncing today...he's a silly boy.

He's still in a good mood and even put his head toward his mom for her to clean him; that was cute to see.

I called the vet and told him about the 185 and he was a little uneasy about it. He's also uneasy about how high of a dose 5.5u is to him...we'll see. Something is certainly working in Puddin's favor so I'm happy about that and the vet is too.

We were so comfortable in the 300s/400s now I'm nervous about Puddin going to the 100s; it's all new territory! New things to learn.

A cat needs how ever much insulin they need. There is a dose out there for every cat, some higher than others. I'm surprised when I still hear of vets getting anxious about higher doses. Neko got to 8.75 units but I've seen some on much, much higher. Her vet had one at her clinic at 10 units, so the size of dose didn't bother her as much.

I'm not sure Puddin has seen below 200 for a long time. It's a well deserved bounce. And a sign that the insulin is starting to work! And it's also a range that's much easier on Puddin's body. You can tell that he's starting to feel better by his behaviour.

Yes, I'm so glad to see him feeling and acting better - and that the insulin is really working!

I still have not implemented snacks for him, but I understand the need/ importance in the future when he gets lower. What are the best times for spacing it out? And does it have to be done in the PM as well?

The idea with snacks is spreading out his food, ideally before and up to the time of his nadir. Unfortunately Puddin hasn't been too consistent on that yet. Neither was Neko. Those bounces make it hard to tell, as well as bounce breaking cycles. Once he starts seeing a lot more blue, his "normal nadir time" will become a lot clearer.

And yes, snacks means night time too. The goal of snacks is to slow down any fast drops, and provide him a little bit of food close to the lowest time of his cycle, to prevent him from going to low. That can happen AM or PM. Ideally you'd also wait until at or after onset for those snacks as well - otherwise it'll just send his numbers higher.

I keep telling Puddin about Neko and he seems to want to be like her many times...maybe because they share a similar coloring too.
