Recently I’ve noticed a lot of our cans of FF Turkey & Giblets Classic Pate cans seem different. The lids make a popping noise when pushed. Normally the lids are slightly concave and “tight”. These seem like there is air in them. I have contacted Purina and they will send me some coupons (purchased from Chewy and PetSmart), but I’m more concerned about getting an answer about safety. I know never to use foods in cans that are bulging. Just to be safe, I will dispose of these cans, but I would love to get an answer from Purina about safety.

Anybody else notice this with their cans of food?

Canned food lids should be concave and not move when pushed. I would not feed this food.

Agree! Wondered if others have had that problem and wanted to make sure people were aware. We will take the cans we ordered from PetSmart back, but I’ll want to make sure they don’t put them back out on the shelves! I worry that people may not know about the potential danger. Honestly, when I pointed it out to my husband and told him not to use them, he had no idea it could be a problem. Unfortunately he may have fed a can to one of the kitties (which might explain the violent vomiting he’s had recently!)

But yeah, buyer beware!!

Yes, I definitely noticed that weird flexing and popping sound of the lids as well. I reported it to Purina and threw out the suspect cans. It was quite a few cans too — I was buying the boxes of 24, multiple cases at a time, and had no way to check each individual can ahead of time. And I might have fed some too—am suspicious that might have been behind the rash of vomiting that occurred during that window of time.

Purina sent me coupons as well. They seemed to think the coupons would “solve the problem,” but really I wanted them to fix whatever manufacturing defect they were having. This was a few months ago—I haven’t noticed as much of a problem recently.

By the way, pay attention to the expiration dates on the coupons. Mine expired in something like 2 months.

Exactly! They said they’d send coupons (I had 30 cans that were poppy), and told me not to feed, and said they would “pass along my concern about safety”. I buy in 24 can packs, and had 30/48 affected. My expiration dates were all July 2025.

Purina need to do a recall of all those cans manufactured with the dates on the cans. You need to put it in the public arena if they won’t take action
