Good morning,
Dose increase given this morning to 4.25 units Lantus. Hope this dose is good, biggest concern is keeping her eating well to counteract the insulin.
Appetite isn’t wonderful. I think it’s related to the hyperthyroidism. I’m doing a lot of spoon feeding.
Picking up the transdermal methimazole tomorrow so I will add that tomorrow night. Hoping she doesn’t feel poorly from that.
If she seems nauseous or isn’t eating, what is the recommended protocol I should use to get her to eat? Any ideas?
Hope everyone has a calm day with safe surfing for all kitties :bighug::cat::bighug:

56 on Libre and dropping at +2. Fast reaction to higher dose? Fed tsp+ 9.25% to maybe just slow the drop.
Active cycle for sure.
Just need her to eat if necessary :nailbiting:
She is motivated today! Holy moly! I don't know what the recommended protocol would be, IMO I'd just give her what she will eat, even if it's forbidden. See what more experienced members say. Sending you much love and many hugs, and praying you have a less stressful day/weekend. C'mon, Ms Ivy, give Momma a break!

Thanks, Christine. Just want to be armed with information if needed. Holiday weekends always make me worried about getting help. Everyone gets busy. Vets can’t be reached. :nailbiting:
Have a nice weekend and safe surfing for Jack :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Yes, I know the stress must be quite high for you because of that. I'll be thinking positive thoughts! Be kind to yourself, and try to zone out for a bit with a book, tv, walk. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Good morning Staci,
Ivy means business today!
I like what @Jack & Mopem'sMom about

particularly when you are adding something major like thyroid meds. It really sounds like stable eating will be essential for her to stay safe and healthy.
Do you do any HC if needed?
I know you are so good at making her food from scratch - wonder if making some gravy type things can help?
(sorry, I don't mean to add one more thing on your already full plate)

At least it's Friday! Good Friday!
Wishing you and Ivy a very lovely day! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hello Staci! Wow, Ivy, what a drop! I hope she quiets down now.
Have a good day, Staci :bighug: I understand your stress, miss Ivy has so many issues. she is lucky to have a good mom like you!

Good morning Staci, I know how hard it is when they won’t eat! You know I go through that with Tiger off and on. I know you cook all her food but i found someone suggested freeze dried treats. Tiger loves them, so I crumble a couple up and put on top of his food. He loves it! He’s particularly found of the salmon. I was using the pure bites brand but found it had a lot of hard leathery pieces, which he didn’t like so I found the Nacho brand (Bobby Flay brand) that are much better consistency. More expensive but no waste, so in the long run a better value. The only ingredient is salmon so it may fit Ivys diet. Just something that’s helped me.

Hope you have a less stressful day today and your mind can rest a bit!

Good meowning Staci and Ivy!

What a beautiful start today. I think she'll be busy today. Of course I'm not surprised to see that her BFF Mikan also started the day in the 100s. Boy these girls conspire together haha. But as long as it's good, green numbers we're all happy.

As for Ivy not eating. I know someone already suggested freeze dried treats. My boys like these. Peanut particularly loves freeze dried liver. He chirps like a little monkey when he sees I take them out.
But how about those tube treats. Some of them are a bit higher in carbs. But fancy feast has a version that's low in carb and my boys still enjoy them (I can take a photo for you, I have them at home). I know most cats go crazy for those tube treats. I know these prob get away from her special diet but hey if you need to put food in her at that point any food would do. As long as she stays safe. I know you will find a way, cause you're super mama to Ivy and I know I've already said this a million times but you take such wonderful care of her. She's a lucky kitty.

Happy Furriday

Hoping today smooths out for both of you after the exciting start.

I'd also feed whatever she's interested in eating. Sometimes all it takes is a half teaspoon of usual food and half of another food to get interest going again. Good luck!

Hi Staci :)
Girl on a mission today. Great job in stabilising her.
Looks like you've got some good ideas her wit encouraging Ivy to eat. I might not have much to add.. You know I still syringe feed Fistuk sometimes. He loves it so much. I think it's because it's just easier for him to eat because he doesn't have teeth. But when he had strong nausea from ketones it was the only way he would eat.
I hope she'll eat what you need her to eat without any problems.
Wishing you a peaceful day :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Kit. I only have a 12.5% recipe, which is what I use if she’s dropping. If I need HC I could theoretically add honey or Karo. But I don’t have a higher carb recipe than that. Just praying she eats for me. I’m so nervous over all this from what I read it can cause them to feel crappy. Hoping she’s ok with that meds.

I that picked up the transdermal med and will give it tonight as her first dose. Crossing paws and everything for a smooth use of this medicine.

She went flat on me today after a busy start. So who knows what tonight holds.
Hope you are having a great day and a safe surf for Mikan :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Cecile, she must’ve heard you because she flattened out quickly. thank you for the kind words. It’s very stressful and I’m hoping she does well in the meds and she starts to feel better. I hope you guys are having a great day.:bighug::bighug:

Hi Karolina, Believe it or not I’ve tried freeze dried lamb treats, and she has no interest in them whatsoever. I try to keep her on lamb as her novel protein since that’s what I feed her so that I try not to give her anything other than that. I don’t give her any other treats due to the FD.
When you get a chance, I’d be curious to see what lower carb Tube treats you feed. I’m sure it’s not great stuff but sometimes it just just gotta get them to eat so good to have options in case of emergency. I do keep baby food in the house too just in case.
I’ve decided a quick trip headed for the beach and then she took a detour for flat sitting by the water. I guess we’ll have to see what this dose does for her since we just gave her the increase. I’m sure it’s some point she’ll start showing us some action.
We will start the new medication tonight, so hoping that doesn’t give her any problems. Hope you guys are having a great day and have a nice evening ahead.

Hi Thanks for letting me know what you use. Where did you get the Nacho brand stuff? I’m not familiar with it. I know of the line, but I’ve never seen it.
I hope you and Tiger are having a great day and thanks for popping in to give us some more ideas. I appreciate it. Have a wonderful evening.:bighug::bighug: :bighug:

That’s good advice I will have to try to remember. A half teaspoon of an alternate food (like baby food or other food) may be enough just to jump start eating. Never thought of that. Thank you!!
Hope you and Purrl are having a nice Furriday :bighug::bighug:

Hi Shelly, she had a fast start then slowed down.
Ivy hardly has any teeth either. She has one large canine top and bottom and boy she uses it on me when she’s mad! Sorry Fistuk is also without his teeth. Poor babies.
I’m praying she will eat for me. Whatever I need to do to help her eat.
I hope you’re having a nice evening now. Wishing you a wonderful Holiday weekend ahead! :bighug::cat::bighug:

I get it at PetSmart. It is easy to crumble as a topping to food and he gobbles his food down. They have tuna, duck, chicken, salmon.
Maybe more. Amazon carries it too.

Hi Staci, I wish you luck with the new dose! So much nice green and blue in your SS, good job Ivy! But must be also nerve wrecking for you.... :nailbiting:

Binie isn't always a good eater which you wouldn't suspect if you see her weight. Just a few days ago I discovered that - if nothing is working - she still love to have a cat drink. It is mostly broth with some meat in it. I'm sure you can purchase something like that in the US as well. I found out that after having the drink, sometimes the appetite comes back and she is eating her usual food again. Here is the link for the German version, just to show you what I mean: https://www.miamor.de/produkt/trinkfein-vitaldrink-huhn-dose-135ml

And for Binie the thiamazol did not reduce her appetite. Only in the beginning, she got the thiamazole as a tablett and developed stomach problems. After we switched to thiamazole juice, her appetite went back to normal until she did her Iodine treatment. So hopefully it is no problem for Ivy too! Good luck!

Sometimes he can serve any food, I call it junk because it is very high in carbohydrates I heat it a little and he loves it, see if he likes it then he does not want normal food ... the only thing I have clear with sinver that if he stopped eating I would give him everything I could without thinking about carbohydrates. I had a kitten a year ago that died that stopped eating and I even gave her jars of my son's cooked and mashed food... the cat pate can be mashed and made like a mush so it's just sucking. With my kitty I spent 5 months preparing different things for her I put the mirataz in her ear but it didn't help her the only thing that made her sleepy but she still didn't eat and it was very frustrating... I send you lots of encouragement.

These are the tubes I use (obviously only as a treat or food topper every meow and then)

Great job on the dose increase. I think if you had tested these Libre numbers (not suggesting that you should have), you’d have found she’s probably just flat blue all day but still......a nice improvement!

Sometimes Tobey can be a bit picky and I put good quality grated Parmesan cheese on his food and he licks it right up. Normally, I’d also suggest Beech Nut chicken or turkey baby food but I know she has an issue with other meats besides lamb. But....maybe try the parmesan. It’s LC, smelly, tasty.

Hope she eats.

Well she’s going down tonight at +1.5 and now almost +2 she’s 66 on Libre.
We will see action now. Since she was pretty flat blue all day.
She Wouldn’t really eat dinner on her own, so I spoon fed her her entire dinner.

***I got the transdermal Methimazole med this afternoon and I gave her the first dose tonight in her ear.

I’m terrified that it’s gonna affect her appetite, but I’m hoping that it will make her feel better and maybe she’ll start wanting to eat again on her own, gosh I hope so.

This is getting to be an issue if she won’t eat on her own. I’m terrified to go out tomorrow night if she won’t eat her snacks on her own.
I guess we’ll see what happens with breakfast and how she does.

Thanks Xelo. I’m so sorry about your kitty who passed away. I’m sure you did everything you could to help her. You’re such a wonderful Mom!!
Thank you for your encouragement and caring :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Lo On Libre and 89 on Contour at +3.6.
She ate one snack from feeder. The rest she’s had hand fed.
Since she’s lingering in Lo range on Libre, it’s not transmitting any readings right now (seems to be what happens when she just sits Lo range)

I'm sorry to hear she's not wanting to eat much. It's rougher since you try to feed only the novel protein (which makes total sense if she has sensitivities). Kit also gets finicky, and sometimes just having something slightly different helps, so maybe the baby food you mentioned will help? I also know it's a double edged sword to have her in some better numbers lately since the libre doesn't do as well responding to those, but you also aren't able to test often, but you also want those good numbers. I don't have any great solutions - the things I do when Kit doesn't want to eat won't necessarily work since it's feeding things that have other proteins in them. We're all here with you! :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

I know, everything is so freaking complicated :banghead:
But I really appreciate the support, Alicia. It makes a world of difference :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Update: Libre sensor failed at +5. I really think it’s the extended time in low range that causes it to fail. It works much better in high numbers. Not in the lows. Very frustrating. :spam::spam::spam:
Just tested her with Contour meter only, at +6 she’s 106.
