I had expressed days ago, My Corky's and Coco's constipation, it seemed bad, so I took them to the Vet, With all your help I was able to give them what they needed at home instead of spending $400. for each, that I don't have The Vet told me they were dehydrated, that I'm sure they are, since the construction and moving their bowl, they do not drink water probably at all so I have made it a point to place 2 tbsp of water in their food (4) for each meal, I am also giving them water 4 times a day thru a syringe, but I do not know how much, how many times a day, I am concerned, any suggestions, will be great, I am giving the water in the syringe Suzanne suggested. I cannot afford what the Vet said about IVs, overnight stay, and then some. HELP>>

Do you have a water fountain? Many cats will drink more from a fountain.

Do you know how to turgor test for dehydration? Pull up on the scruff and let go and it should snap right back down....if it slowly goes back down, that's a sign of dehydration.

You can also feel their gums. They should feel wet and slick, not tacky or sticky.

I have the fountain and their water bowl, nothing, the scruff snaps right back, the gums are a bit sticky but not that dry, I don't think they like the noise the fountain makes, I had put it away after a few days of purchase but I took it out again last week
Why is it that I cannot see this post on the main Post Forum page?? it happens to me a lot , what am I doing wrong?? AHHH! just saw it

It took awhile for my cats to get used to the sound too. Had one that wouldn't even walk into the kitchen to eat as long as it was on so moved it to the next room so he couldn't hear it and put a plain water bowl back.

Cats can be weird.

I's really loud it even bothers me, and is at the lowest speed and not cheap either;
I first had it up for a month, they did not touch it or go by it, again the same thing
how often should I syringe the water daily on the side of the mouth ?

What kind of fountain do you have? I know some are a lot louder than others and price doesn't necessarily make a difference. I am sorry you spent good money on a nice fountain that's SO loud it even bothers you! Is there any chance you can return it? I don't know where you bought it or how long ago, but I know Chewy is very good about helping their customers get what they want.

It doesn't sound like they're terribly dehydrated if their skin pops right back. You're now giving 3ml, four times a day plus adding water to food?

Maybe do that for 1 more day, give the lactulose a chance to kick in. As for the squash and the psyllium goes, I wouldn't go overboard and be giving lactulose, squash and psyllium! You could easily end up with a worse problem with diarrhea.

If poops still keep coming and aren't rock hard, drop the syringed water to twice a day. You can always go back up if you need to but I'm sure you have other things you could be doing other than syringing 2 cats four times a day.

Just an FYI...squash and pumpkin are mostly fiber, so they don't generally cause a lot of problems with blood glucose levels unless your cat(s) are very carb-sensitive.

Don't know why you'd have trouble finding plain pumpkin though. It's always available at my Walmart . Something like this is what you want. Only ingredient is pumpkin. You can also put it into ice cube trays, freeze it, pop the frozen chunks in a baggie and have them in the freezer any time you need to use them.

I will look on the Chewy app, I bought it at Walmart about two months ago they will not return without a receipt and is the only model they have, and yeah the poop is a bit hard still, not as usual, and it I do not care how much time I need to spend on getting them better, I really have nothing to do except take care of them and my home is spotless, they are my priority, my, family I just don't want them to get sick where I cannot take care of them with this Forum and you guys I am broke, literally, for a Vet, ans it scares me and Coco is going thru the same as Corky so is not just Corky there are two, I appreciate so much all the time everyone takes to help me thank you so much I am going on Chewy right now and order the fountain if you could recommend which one by name it would be great before I spend on another failure.:bighug::bighug::cat::cat:

Can you leave a faucet in the bathroom dripping a bit? Some cats like drinking from the running faucet like that.

Did the vet not give you a recommendation as to how much water to give daily? I believed I asked this question after you returned home from the vet, but everything was so chaotic that it was overlooked! Anyway, they should have told you how much water they thought you should give!

tried that too , nothing believe I've tried everything, the syringe reassures me that they drank plus the extra in their food

What I really want to know is: have they pooped today? Yesterday? You need to get them to pooping at least every other day. So I am wondering…

actually it was my idea to ask for the syringe, he did not mentioned a thing he's only interest, was for me to leave both cats for Iv's and vitamins and the $800+ he was going to get, really, I am banging it every 2 hours or so I give them about 1 1/2 mls
pls the 2 tsps in the food

yes they did both of them today, only Coco, but Corky is usually before I go to bed have you seen the SS? it's not too bad but it could be better, maybe the baby fruit and tonight the squash, I am trying to alternate, might raise the Bg but not too much I've noticed
And we are in Poop City, just checked the box Corky did a big one just perfect. I am sooooo Happy. I love you Suzanne , thanks for just being here:bighug::bighug::bighug::cat::cat:

If you would send me a name of a fountain I will buy it from Chewy,

If I were you, I'd call them! Their customer service is usually fantastic and if you tell them you want a fountain for your cat but it must be very quiet, they will be able to help you make a good choice.

They spent over an hour on the phone with me one time when I was looking for flavors I knew my cat liked but there were limited options. We finally found 2 that I thought were worth a try and bought a case of each. One was "OK" but the other he tried to bury. Chewy refunded the price of that entire case, told me to donate whatever was left to a shelter and we went back to trying to find some other food he would deem acceptable.

That sounds like you should have gotten a handle on their dehydration then unless their is some other medical condition that would cause them to be dehydrated.

This is great news. Now you may just need to gradually back off the treatments/supplements to make sure they don’t get diarrhea.

It’s probably because you went back to just the straight.75 units without the fattening of the dose that’s been giving him slightly higher numbers. But he still has a lot of blue so that is good!

you are right that's why I love Chewy, their customer service personnel is awesome. thanks:bighug::cat::cat:

Suzanne please review Corky's SS when you have time his numbers are good but getting too low? and did you read the label of the fluid we talked about? I send it via email I am not allowed to download in this Forum, What could the change come from? there might be a possibility the PMPS shot might not happen

What a nice cycle. I hope he didn’t come up because of food. He could have probably surfed in green longer. But he’s back in the mid-blues now and should be fine by shot time don’t you think?

How’s it going on the poop front? Coco?

Coco is getting there, she pooped really good this morning, if its not too much trouble look up on line the brand SUEROX, this is what I bought for fluids, did you read the ingredients of the photo from the bottle I emailed you? I am still concern over your concern about the content of sugar substitute or other
I really feel that this fluid is what has Corky in these numbers, and no, the high BG after the low was a minimal 0.05u of Karo and the few pieces of hard food. I had an appointment with Physical therapy I did not want a surprise coming back home, but still the BG stayed low, I wonder:bighug::bighug::cat::cat::cat::cat:

I have not received any email. I looked up Suerox zero sugar and all I see are different flavors. I copied this ingredient list:
Water, Less than 1% of: Sodium Citrate, Potassium Chloride, Sodium Chloride, Calcium Lactate, Calcium Gluconate, Magnesium Sulfate, Zinc Gluconate, Citric Acid, Potassium Sorbate (Preservative), Sodium Benzoate (Preservative), Xanthan Gum, Natural and Artificial Flavorings, Sucralose, Acesulfame K.

in particular the last two ingredients Sucralose and Acesulfame K are not good for cats. But maybe your ingredient list is different?

I understand about the concern of giving something to boost his BG because you were going to be gone for an appointment. The karo and high carb treats certainly boosted him out of the greens, but those things won’t last a really long time (which is why when you are dealing with low numbers you have to keep testing very frequently - not today with Corky, mind you- I’m not saying that, but just saying that a one-time dose of a little karo and a few HC treats won’t necessarily shoot Corky to the moon - although in some cats it might- fortunately he did not!)

The one I purchased by recommendation of the pharmacist and reading label, she knows about Corky's diabetes, does not have the last two ingredients, Sucralose and Acesulfame , please know, that I do not want to give him anything that will harm either one of them, that is why I want you to see the label you might see what I don't will send you from my phone the back of the label showing ingredients, please let me know if you received it

Wow. Look at today! So nice! I’m very proud of you, Maria!
thanks, do not think it has been easy for me holding these numbers I am not use to it, if you read my post titled Pedialyte, I wrote you a long note about it.
thanks, for making me feel good about his SS I never thought that Corky's SS would ever look like that. Even me going to the Physical therapist every day at 1-1:30 I leave confidant, and you should take credit for that you helped me face my fear. thank you
:bighug::bighug::bighug::joyful::joyful::cat::cat:

I always had faith that you would get more used to the better numbers — because you love him so much and want what is best for him. :bighug: You had a very scary beginning on Corky’s diabetic journey.
