Orlando's pre-shot test is much lower than expected in one of the lowest I've ever seen. Wondering if I should give the full .75 or if I should reduce them down to half a unit.

I can only stall for a second 15 minute test and then I have to make a decision in the next 10 minutes. He accidentally got a late shot today by almost an hour and I was late to work.

Thanks everyone!

Update: opted to give Lando .50 since I'm suspecting his recent high #s were due to a bounce from some lows I must have missed & that I shot one morning in the scruff instead of side. As well as he hit 50 less than a week ago and I chose not to reduce then, since he's a long term diabetic now.

Knowing Lando he's going to come up a little from the food over the next 2 hours then start coming down, and if I give him an early snack (if needed) it'll slow the drop. If he doesn't drop low tonight and stays in the greens maybe he'd due for the reduction anyway! I didn't want another long long night watching him going too low if I can avoid it since I don't have a day off for 10 more days :p we will see how it plays out!

What a great cycle!

The larger depot is still at play however, so you might still need to keep an eye on him this evening. I might even get a +1 since he was dropping from the last test.

Technically with TR you wait for that drop below 50, I’ll tag @tiffmaxee or @Bandit's Mom to see what they think - if you should keep this dose or go back and let him ‘earn’ it

Sounds great, thank you! I will still keep an eye on him this evening.
He's coming up on a +1 now so I'll test soon. I got a + 30 minute test and he went up to 99. I was skeptical of a reduction at the 50 right away since he's a long term and we'd just switched shooting sites (which is when we immediately started seeing better numbers!) So I wanted to see how things played out.
The babe got a midcycle check for me today and he had a pretty 80. His dose was almost an hour late this morning so I will also need to keep in mind there may be wonkiness the next few days since the depo drained a little.

His dose is still 0.75 units. He wasn't screaming "I need a reduction" on that dose. You did a BCS tonight. Which is OK, though at some point you should get more comfortable with shooting 70's and even 60's and 50's. That +1 and +2 today will give you an idea of what his cycle will look like tonight. And those first couple tests might give a clue as to what would have happened had you shot full dose.

I've shot him before at lower numbers, but it's been a long time as he's been all over the place lately & trying to decipher what issues are going on. Just a couple days ago he went to 200! Days before that, 50. Been hard to tell if his .75 is still working, or too high, or too low with all his craziness o_O:p Us changing injection sites has been great for him, but also still kind of unpredictable so it made me a tad nervous. I didn't think he's exactly ready for a reduction just yet which is why I've held the .75 after that 50.

The only time I've shot in the 60s I wasn't going to be able to monitor and I gave a reduced dose. I was going to shoot the full .75 but changed my mind at the last minute since at +4 I really need to go to bed if possible, which is very early in his cycle. I was surprised to see good numbers today with a shot and hour late which also made me a little curious if a reduced dose was the best option.

Thank you for your input! I'm looking forward to what others say as well, but I am thinking he should hold the .75 and I'll know more as the night goes on and over the next couple days to see how he reacts :)

So far +1 is a 99 as well!

He hasn’t earned a reduction with TR. I know it’s scary to shoot low but at some point it becomes addictive. Then you will be upset with higher preshots. When you are home and can monitor is the time to try it. Then if he does drop under 50 you can see how easily it is or isn’t to bring the bg up.

For sure. We will go back to .75 tomorrow as planned!

So it's 2 or 3 "under 50s" for a reduction now that he's been diagnosed over a year, correct? Just so I know I'm doing exactly what needs to be done!

Did his 50 a few days ago count as one or did he need to be BELOW 50? I started bringing him up with food asap when it happened but I know he would have kept dropping without the intervention.

After a year it’s one under 40. If a cat doesn’t hold reductions it’s 3 under 50. It has to be less than 50 unless you have to keep feeding hc for a long time and he’s hard to bring back up. Lando has been at the same dose and at least this year has not dropped under 50 that I can see. He can also earn a reduction if almost all under 100 for 7 days with most nadirs between 50-80. I will link the sticky on earning reductions for you.

The 50 does not count. It needs to be under 50.

AWESOME! Great tips thank you so much! This is very very clear now and I understand completely. So far so good 96 at +2 tonight :)
