Dear Administrators,
@Bandit's Mom , @Wendy&Neko , @tiffmaxee , @Chris & China (GA), @Ale & Bobo & Minnie (GA), @Sienne and Gabby (GA)

Yesterday on 05Jan2023 Kokkinoulis had the following BG numbers:
AMPS 265, +2 408, +5 465, +8 438 PMPS 421 +2 380 +4 408
After his yellow pre-shot number at 265 mg/dl I was hopping that he would have had better BG numbers but infortunatelly the BG numbers increased again. Is this rebound hyperglycemia a bounce?
Today again the BG numbers are increased.

Should I increase tommorow the dose? According to the below should I increased it by 0.25 or by 0.5? What is your advice?
  • if the cat is producing continuously high BGs (nadir always >=300 mg/dl), only hold the dose for 2-3 days before increasing it by 0.5 IU. Alternatively, if the cat is continuously producing moderately elevated BGs (nadir always >=200 mg/dl), increase the dose every 2-3 days by 0.25 IU ( if the cat is getting a low dose) or 0.5 IU (if the cat is getting a higher dose)
Kokkinoulis has most of the days flat curves. Somewhere in our forum I read the following about flat curves: "Usually, if a dose of insulin is too high, you'll see a curve that isn't really curve-shaped. More of a flat line. Sometimes you'll see an "inverse" curve, where the numbers climb a little during the cycle, then return to just about the same level the cycle started at. The problem is that the same shapes can happen when the dose is too low. That's why this "dance" is so confusing. There aren't any definite rules that say "if this, then that".
Moreover, at the link https://diabeticcatcare.com/DCCCOK/Rebound.htm below is mentioned about first typical form of "rebound" (bounce) and second typical form of rebound (overdose situation) as well as about flat curves .
Is it possible Kokkinoulis rebound hypergycemia and/ or flat curve is due to insulin overdose?

Hello Gabriella! I don't think he has too much insulin, I think you still need to find the right dose for him. If it was too much, you are testing enough that you would see it, I mean, you would see lower numbers and then higher ones again.
I cannot tell you what to do with his dose, but you tagged the right people :)

He’s definitely not getting too much insulin. He just hasn’t hit the breakthrough dose. You have had a couple of tests under one bg 300 but I would increase to 4.5 because you are seeing the rest over 300.
Are you testing for ketones? How’s he acting? Eating, playing, purring, preening?

Hi Elise, I tried to test him only twice and he did not had ketones. He is much better and more active than before diabetes diagnosis. Today he is very hungry more than other days. So except his regular food I feed him with some boiled chicken between shots and after monitoring with BG meter. He is purring all time, normally preening and he started to play again..

That’s what we want to hear. He’s feeling better. We all have to remind ourselves there’s more than their bg numbers to consider!:bighug::)

I agree with Elise on dosing. Bounces can last up to 6 cycles, but don't impact what we do with the dose.

Great Kokki report! We like to hear about the 5 P's, purring, preening, playing, peeing and pooing. When they start getting closer to a dose that moves them, you'll see their behaviour improving. :)

I would try to test daily for ketones on days that he's in all high numbers.

It was difficult to me to test him for ketones but today I saw a video with a spoon and I will try it.
