BG Keeps Dropping

Well I’m glad we’re in the same time zone. Makes it easier.

We will have to make sure that when you are working the long shifts that he isn’t having a low preshot day. I assume that your sister will shoot and feed but not test?

Yes she was over today and saw me test him but I'm not sure if she has he capabilities yet. I'm gonna give her some practice on him but unfortunately she is gone for the day.
She will feed and test him tomorrow night and Sunday night
I'm really concerned being gone that long, If this happens again there won't be anyone around to manage the dose if drops like this today.

I know were not supposed to go past 50 reply in the thread how do i continue a thread and make a new one but keep the link to this one above the page?

Well, I think we can keep him safe. If necessary, shoot only .25. But we don’t know where he will be tomorrow morning yet!

Well… actually he earned a reduction today back down to .25 units since he dropped well under 90. So for the time being at least he would get .25 units. Make sure your sister is comfortable drawing the .25 units so that you know she won’t draw too much. As you already know, you have to kind of eyeball the U-40 syringes between the half unit mark and the zero mark - and this can be tricky. You may want to mark a syringe with a fine point sharpie or something.

Tomorrow i have a little more room to work with him I don't have to leave for work till 2pm in Tampa.
I work and manage over at Tampa Bay Bucs stadium and we have the Gasparilla Bowl tomorrow and Bucs game Sunday
The Sunday Chrismas Eve game is gonna be a little more difficult because i leave at 10:30 and will not return home till 10 or 11

Good idea with the sharpie i like that. Ya i showed her earliar just in case we did drop it to .25. You have to really be careful n eyeball it under a bright light.

So Sunday all you will be able to do is give the a.m. shot and then leave an hour later. And you won’t be home for the p.m. shot time, but will be home an hour or so into his p.m. cycle.

Yeah. I bought these lighted magnifiers lens things from Amazon. They also help me with cutting some cat’s nails and especially the kitten nails (foster kittens) when they’re really small.

Yep. 72 is still an awesome surf! Still green. I am smiling. This kind of shows us what Sir Maximus can do in the lower numbers. He has done very well and all with only one time having HC at +1 I believe and then a little mix of HC/MC later. But all LC the rest of the time!

Just fed him LC snack before i saw your post. I can give him a HC/LC snack in an hour if that would be best

No. I’m saying it’s really good that he has surfed in green without the aid of much HC at all. You have managed it well with his help! I would not give any HC or MC at this point — in fact, he’s probably eaten enough food until PMPS time (which will be a little late. If you want, shoot at 9 p.m. and then shoot tomorrow morning at the usual 8:30 a.m. time.

Okay awesome, i always shoot between 8:45 and 9 .
i test him around 8:40 then feed him and then make sure that shot is him btw 8:45 and 9AM

I was thinking to let him get a nap in today and test at +8 and let that poor ear relax a little bit.

Whoops that 61 reading was at 1:45 so i thought it was close enough to post at +5 column
It really is closer to +4 if his shot was at 9:30 then 1:45 should go in the +4 cell and say 61@4.25 (meaning four hours and 15 minutes aka 1/4 hour). If that makes sense. If you have to test them more than once in an hour you have to manually insert more than one number into the cells. And then you have to manually color code it.

Anyway, I was thinking, can you write what you fed him today and when …. Like HC @+1, etc. it can help later on in a similar situation to see what was done and how he responded.

Okay yes i can do this. Not the best with Google excel sheets but i figure it out. I will have it done just need a little time to figure it all out and reload my brain cells. Thank you:)

Wow. What a bounce! But we knew that was going to happen. And you are already gone this afternoon to work. At least you don’t have to worry while you’re gone and your sister is taking care of him. Hope your day goes well.

Thanks for checking in today.

Ya i was prepared to see some high numbers today but i didn't think he shoot like a rocket that high up to 589. I was thinking the 400's.

The only good thing is I didn't have to worry about a Hypo episode after being gone all day and night with work.

Hope we can get the poor guy back on track so he will start feeling better. I worry about these high numbers and bounces be so hard on his other organs since he is a senior kitty. Just got keep trying and hope for the best. Thank you

Another long day today for you. I do hope his numbers will be a little lower. So I guess you will be around on Monday— unless you have Christmas plans away from home.
Hi Suzanne Thanks for checking in.

My parents live close by so I will be back and forth during Christmas. He is still running high at 523 this am. I was hoping for it to be lower but when he bounces he bounces high. I didn't do much testing yesterday because I know he's running high. His appetite has increased due to the high numbers. I''m hoping after day 3 the number start decreasing.

You and your family have a very Merry Christmas

Thank you

Looking at his spreadsheet… he is almost ready for an increase back up to .5 units (if following the SLGS guideline of holding the dose for 7 days.) At first, it looks like he was bouncing — and bouncing can take up to 6 cycles to clear — but after that, his numbers have remained high. The problem is that we have some gaps in his spreadsheet so we can’t know for sure if he may have dropped lower than he is accustomed to at night, which could have set off another bounce. We really can’t be sure what’s been going on with him the last few days. Will you be home today to do some regular testing on him so we can try to make a dosing decision? I hate seeing those high numbers on his spreadsheet, but it’s paramount that we keep him safe and I would feel a lot more comfortable if we knew what his nadir is.

I gave .25 today to clear his cycle. I'm off tomorrow so we can increase the dose to .5

Would you like me to test in a particular way today like +3 +5 +6 etc to find his nadir or wait till tomorrow for the true dosage amount.

I probably should of replied to this thread instead of replying above

Sorry I didn’t get a chance to reply. Can you test again two hours from the last test? I was really dismayed to see the red test on there.

So I was hoping we could get a bit of a curve on him today to see what the nadir is — if there is one.
Maybe tonight you can get a few tests at +2, or +4 — unless you’re working tonight.

If you do the increase tomorrow, you will need to get tests at +2, +4, etc. or obviously more frequently if the numbers warrant it. And make sure to feed the snacks during the early part of the cycle.

No worries. Let's get those tests in this evening so we can see what happens in the early part of the cycle.
Good Morning Suzanne

I started Maximus at .5 this AM. Will test and feed around +2 increments so we can get an idea for what his Nadir is thru the day. Looking at his last round at .5 he was okay on day1 and day 2 is when he shot down like a rocket. Hopefully he will maintain and level off drop steadily in good numbers.

Disappointing red at +2. Hopefully something better will have happened by +4.
Thanks for checking in

Yes i was a little disappointed seeing the red too. Looking back on his chart on the 19th he was about the same at +2 then dropped into pink around +4
He had a decent breakfast so maybe that slowed him down a bit.

He has been quite the challenge to manage, starting to think he enjoys challenging my mental state.:)

Well… a pink today and the rest red. Let’s try to be patient and see if he will do anything soon. The thing is, I understand how frustrating it is and how pointless it sometimes seems to test when he’s so high. But sometimes you can miss things. Let’s see if he’s headed anywhere tonight or if he’s saving it up for tomorrow.

Yes he can be a little sneaky, it took 2 days for that big drop last time. I have off tomorrow and Saturday off but Sunday and Monday i will be gone for work from 7am till 6pm. I don't like giving him a shot without knowing if he is in a good range. See how he reacts next couple days. Will test at +2 and +4 this eve.

Thank you
