Hello everyone!

I finally decided to give a try to the TR protocol and hope it goes well....

I must say it was very helpful to study the spreadsheets of the other sugar kitties posted here to get a little idea of what to expect.

But I have a few questions:

Seta is now at 2 units of Lantus and I just wanted to ask if it is ok to keep the dose only for 5 days or less instead of 1 week in case it has consistently high BG.

With the TR protocol, is it necessary to do blood glucose curves from time to time?

Then I wanted clarification about bounces. As I understand it, I shouldn’t focus on these for diabetes regulation because at least in the beginning the cat will definitely have a lot of them because it has to get used to normal low numbers again.
So this is something to keep in mind but not essential when I have to make the decision to increase the dose, right?
So what I need to do essentially is to up the dose until the values come down and stay there for at least most of the day. Is this correct or am I missing something?

Thanks in advance! <3

That's great that you have been doing research and have decided to give TR Dosing Method a try. It can be scary at first, but it can help Kitty get to a good dose quickly AND SAFELY!

With TR, you increase by 0.25 units every 3 days (6 cycles) unless you are getting good green nadirs. On a human meter, we are looking for nadirs (the lowest points of the cycle) to be between 50-80. For a newly diagnosed diabetic, meaning less than 1 year, you would reduce if you get a BG under 50.

TR is an aggressive method. We really encourage to get at least 4-6 tests a day. At a minimum, AMPS one or more tests after, PMPS and at least a test before bed. Of Course if the numbers indicate an active cycle, more testing will be necessary.

You really don't want to increase if the bounce is clearing because then there's extra momentum (1) from the bounce clearing and (2) the increase in insulin. It can be intimidating at first, however, there are many members around to opine on whether to increase or hold the dose.

If you don't get any green nadirs tonight, I would increase the dose to 2.25 units tomorrow morning.

Keep posting and asking questions :cat:
