10/19 Bubbas AMPS 369 PMPS 332

How is Bubbas feeling and acting these days? Cats are so much more than their numbers.

Any chance you'll be able to do a curve soon? Tomorrow is day 7 at this dose. Without even the before bed tests, it's hard to say how he's doing on this dose.

Hes been a little more needy I can tell lately, meowing for food more too. But yes I am going to do a curve forsure this Saturday! I didnt last weekend because I had to skip a dose last week. But I am 1000000% doing one either saturday or sunday. Hes been really finicky with me testing him lately, he use to be pretty ok with it but thats why ive slowed down, its so hard to get him to sit still and let me poke him for the last month or so.

Any particular time of day/night he's been doing that meowing for food? Maybe do a test then. Neko used to let me know she was going low by hanging out either by the fridge or where we did our testing. As for testing, maybe it's time to try a different low carb treat that he really loves.

He does it a LOT when i get home from work, I get home around 3:45pm and usually test him around that time, I give him one can at that point because it makes me sad to wait until 6:00pm to feed, but than of course I give him another can at 6:00pm and give him his shot. I just put that 4:00pm test as his PMPS because when I do test him before food its always about the same number. So, i test him basically a little after I get home which is when he meows the most.

Bubbas has been SO picky lately though; I can't just buy one brand or one flavor of food. One day hell like his fancy feast, then the next he won't touch it and only likes blue wilderness. So I cant find a food he'll stick with which is getting sort of frustrating.

I'm no cat whisperer or anything but I know Bubbas and I think something is going on. Hes been doing the extra meowing a lot, not really gaining weight, and he's been extra lovely the last month. As his mom I just have a feeling something is going on. I was supposed to get him an ultrasound to see how his pancreas and stomach is doing, but I dont have the money to spend $900 on an ultrasound right now. So even though I feel like something is wrong, I can't even afford a pet visit.

So you basically are getting a +10 test, but no PMPS test? There are a couple problems with this.

First, you don't have a PMPS test. We typically look at the before bed test (when you get it) and compare it to the preshot test, to see the rate of change. That rate of drop tells us whether the PM cycle will be an active one that either needs more monitoring or extra food to be left out.

When you are feeding him at +10, that is likely causing the insulin to wear off faster for that cycle, or lose duration. That would make the preshot higher than it normally would be. If you have to feed him at +10, try to make it no more than 2-3 tsps of a very low carb food. Neko had historically gotten a meal at what became our +9, so I eventually converted her over to some zero carb treats at that time.

I fed Neko 4 different foods (proteins) that I'd rotate through so she didn't get bored of any one of them. It also helps if for some reason the manufacturer changes the formula and kitty no longer likes that food, so you then have backups.

That is great advice!! Yeah, lately he is just NON STOP meowing when I get home, and I felt so bad waiting basically 2 1/2 hours to feed him. So you are saying I should give him a very small amount of zero carb food if he wont stop crying for food, then give him his normal test, feed and shoot at his normal PM time?

He used to be fine when I got home, he would wait until 6:00pm but yeah again lately he meows almost like hes in pain until I feed him. I will forsure started testing him truely at his PMPS shot. I havent been using his +10 number as his PMPS number for long at all but I will stop that.

I will forsure do a curve this weekend.
