? Nestle - need advice with dosing UPDATE

Hello everyone,

It's been confirmed by the vet this morning and Nestle is officially out of remission.
Our vet wants to start insulin right away and he advises to start with 1U.
In the past I haven't had very good experience with this vet and would like a second opinion.
I've been monitoring Nestle for the past month and have updated his spreadsheet with the numbers I've collected. Based on that what should be his starting dose?
We will be using Lantus once again.

Any advice would be highly appreciated and welcomed.
Thank you :cat:

UPDATE- I went ahead with 1U tonight

I'm sorry to hear Nestle is no longer in remission. Our Tango fell out of remission after 6 months. It's been about 6 months since we restarted insulin (Lantus) and he's down to .5units. Started at .5, got up to 2.75. Hoping he is back in remission soon. I am not an expert on advising dosage... I'm sure someone will come along soon to help you. Just wanted to send kitty vibes to a short stay.

Hi Lori and Tango and thank you for your kind words.
Nestle and I have done this before so I'm trying to stay positive and believe we can do it again. The first time around he was in remission for 1year and 3 months.

All the best to you and Tango.
Nestle, Peanut and I are sending PAWsitive thoughts and vibes your way :cat::bighug::cat::bighug:

Sorry you are back again, hope it's a short stay. :bighug::bighug:

Nestle's breakthrough dose the first time seems to be 3.25 units. It's possible he'll end up going that far again this time. If you look at Tango's SS, first time he got up to 3 units and turned it around this time at 2.75 units. Kit Kat is another of our returnees (SS here), got up to 1 unit first time, and seems to be hovering around that this time. Tansi (SS here) has returned and is now quite a bit higher dose than the first time. And just to proved ECID, here is Herman's SS, got up to 2.5 the first time, and started at 1.0 units the second time around.

How much does Nestle weigh now? Did you ever get his teeth looked at?

Like to previous post here, for some background.

Nestle weighs 15 lbs at the moment.
The vet looked at his teeth yesterday and said he's got some gingivitis and tartar but nothing to require work at this time. He advised us to brush his teeth every other day do we started that yesterday.

Sorry you are back. It sounds like a dental cleaning might take care of this. I saw you posted the pmps in another condo. You can add the pmps to the subject on this condo. One condo each day. That way nobody ends up only reading one.

Thank you for your input.
To be completely honest that has crossed my mind but that solution seemed too simple but I will definitely look into it.
Also I'll be honest. I don't know how to delete my other post. :(

Need of a dental is I think the number one reason cats come out of remission. Well, that or an infection. I hope that will get Nestle back to remission. It might take a little time on insulin along W to the dental though.

Don’t worry about deleting the other condo. You can’t. Only mods can @Wendy&Neko

15 lbs = 6.8 kg. Starting dose when new to Lantus would be 0.25 * weight in kg, so 1.7, which you could round up to 1.75 or take down to 1.5 units. But he's not really new to Lantus. You could start at the Lantus starting dose, but be prepared to be aggressive to take his dose up, which you can do since you are following TR. The sooner you can get him regulated, the better the odds of getting him into remission again.

I started with 1U last night and this morning. Would it be OK to increase him for tonight to 1.5U?

Sorry Nestle fell out of remission. Hopefully it’s just a short visit for you. Went through the same thing recently with Herman. He’s currently tightly regulated on 0.75 units and feeling great and I’m happy for that.

Thank you. I also hope thisnis just temporary.
All the best to you and Herman. He's a cutie :cat::bighug:

Hi Karoline. Sorry to learn Nestle feel out of remission. Well, I don't know how you feel about it and I do want to ask.
I send prayers that Nestle finds its way back to remission again. Nestle's body knows how to get there so paws crossed it'll be a short stint here :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Danke schön Shelly!

I hope this is short lived. All the best to you and Fistuk :cat::bighug::cat::bighug:
