It's interesting what Deb says. Bella used to eat sweet potato, I stopped it when she was diagnosed, or rather once I started coming here. I give her pumpkin once in a while but even that, not too much. I buy raw food for her, it's made locally and most of the ones I buy don't have vegetables added. Some meats have more supplements, I should try to note if that has an effect on her BG. I rotate between chicken, lamb, turkey and pork, since they don't all have the same supplements in it.
Since you make it, you could even go to 3% carbs or even less, actually? It's great that you have a nutritionist, but when I see what my vets recommend in terms of food for diabetic cats, I am not sure I would trust their recipes completely! If I listened to them, I would feed Bella canned food that has 22% carbs. And according to them, they have "a lot of patients" who went into remission just by switching to that food. I asked her last time how switching from no-carb to 22% would help Bella, and she answered that since Bella is doing so well now, maybe we don't need to change her food.
