Looking at Corky's BG.s this morning, I am positive I missed-calculated the amount of insulin in the syringe.
When I pressed the syringe it seemed like it didn't even move there must of been a drop in the syringe, is this will his BG continue to rise? it looks like it is next dose is at 4:00PM

Hi Maria, question for you....

What Fancy Feast are you feeding exactly? You've mentioned gravy a couple of times over the last week or so.
Since I changed Corky and my Coco(non diabetic) their food brand to Fancy Fest Meat/Chicken gravy Classic,
since the middle of August I have given my Babies Fancy Feast Classic with gravy
meat/turkey, compared to the MeauMix

Can you tell me exactly what name is on the label of the gravy one please?

Does it say Gravy Lovers anywhere on the can?

no, the name I said and forgot "Grilled" but no gravy lovers
The Grilled Chicken in gravy is what we consider MC (medium carb) food at 12% carbs on the food chart and a little higher in carbs than we recommend for daily feeding.

Since you are mixing it with the 3% low carb (LC) Beef & Chicken pate it'll bring the average % of carbs fed down and that's better, but, if you stay away from the gravy food altogether it may help keep Corky's numbers lower - we don't know how much of the gravy he gets from meal to meal and since most of the carbs are in the gravy, it could make a difference.

do you suggest that perhaps I can drain the gravy? or is the actual type of food? they really like the two flavors, I only put 1 tsp of the grilled chicken, the rest is half of the can meat at each meal what do you think? the meat seems quite dry, suggestion?

Corky has diabetes because his body can't process all the sugar from his food properly. Feeding FF Grilled with gravy is adding extra carbs to his diet and making his pancreas work harder. I would stop adding the gravy food to see if it helps make a difference in his numbers.

Do you mean the pate seems dry? Some members add a tablespoon of warm water and mix it in with the Pate to moisten it or you could add a couple tablespoons to make it soupy - how much water you add will depend if Corky likes it moist or soupy.

thank you for the recipe

Without doing the calculations - quick look at the top ingredients (corn, wheat, rice) looks like it'd be high carbs and quick google search came up with between 32% to 42% carbs - YIKES!!

YIKES IS RIGHT!!! I had a member sweet as pie, send me 4 bags of this food, as a gift with more to come I fed the kids (Corky too) tonight, I guess not more since he had said as a sweetheart that it was high on Protein, I believe he did not know the content of Carbs, a member bless his soul thanks

I suspected that the missed-calculation and changing dosing time by missing 2 hours a high BG (512) was going to happen I didn't think this high, which scares me. how log approximately will it start changing back to how it was? will it go back to normal again soon?? the dosing still the same I suppose He's been crying which is very unusual, I had to pick him up from the sofa tonight twice and put him in my bed he was crying loud . He ate quite well and he's hasn't been over drinking during the night either.

Yep, you're right, dosing stays the same. Dose depends on how low he goes - and in most circumstances, we don't react to those higher numbers.

Give him time to settle down from all the changes & the carbs in dry food can take longer to clear his system, so, depending how much dry food you fed, we have to give it time for the dry food to clear too.

Look at the last black you had for comparison and how the following cycles went until he seen better numbers. It'll help if you stick to only LC wet food too.

OH YES! no more of that dry food, I thought is was a great gesture of Nick, member, to send me this food he was not aware of the high , he is sending me supplies and ProZinc, bless his soul. Yes also this time I did not panic, I realized immediately that 1 feed of the Purina did it. thanks:bighug:
