08/08/23 Ted AMPS-306 + 6- 263 Hi I just wanted to see if anyone could tell me how they think my cat is doing and if I am at the correct dose. I’m new here and not sure if I’m doing the right thing. I came from a different group and they did things differently. Last night Teds pre shot # was 139. I gave him his usual dose but now I’m thinking I wasn’t supposed to?? Was I supposed to skip? I’m not sure. Also I’m used to pre testing 1/2 hour before I feed him and give him his insulin. Is that correct? I set up my signature but im not able to move my SS to the post. Thank you for any help you can give me!

Welcome to LLB. Here we test, feed, shoot all within 5-10 minutes. No reason to wait 30 minutes unless the preshot is under 150. If it is DON’T FEED. Recheck in about 30 minutes to see if the BG is rising on its own without food. If so shoot. We gradually lower the number until you shoot if over 90. If still under 150 after stalling you have choices. If you can monitor it’s best to at least shoot a reduced dose of 25-50% of your dose. If not then you can skip. If at all possible a before bed test is a good idea as cats often drop lower at night.

Have you had a chance to read the dosing methods sticky? It explains what to do but if unsure add a question mark and something like BG ## should I shoot. Usually someone will be around to help.

Thank you! Ok so I just stall once for 30 min and then decide what to do? Right now my cat is getting .75 so I would do around .37? That seems hard to figure out on the syringe. Im already nervous eyeballing the .75 because I feel like I never get it perfectly. I’m using 3/10 ml syringes. I would always be home to monitor so that wouldn’t be a problem at all. My cat is always higher in the mornings. Is that typical?

I did read some of the sticky’s. I think I did read the dosage one because that’s how I decided to do the go slow method. I’ve honestly read so much information and it differs a lot from what I’ve been doing so I’m a little overwhelmed. I think I’ll make little note cards that I can keep close by so I can look it up quickly.
If I was to post help for knowing if I should shoot or not, is there a time limit on it? I’m just wondering what if I hadn’t heard back from someone by a certain time and I ended up doing the wrong thing. Sorry for so many questions. Thanks for your help!

If you give a token dose just make it about .25. How long you stall depends upon how off schedule you can be for the next shot. If under 30 minutes you won’t need to alter your time. The only other thing is sometimes your cat will go down more without food.

Don’t apologize for asking questions. It’s better than not asking. That’s why we are here. If the BG is flat after stalling and you don’t hear from anyone just shoot a reduced dose if around 150 for now if you feel comfortable. The more data you have the easier it will be to decide. Is your cat carb sensitive? How many points does the BG rise after eating?

Ok just so I’m sure.. I will give a small dose of .25 instead of .75 if Teds #s are 139 or under? But only after not feeding him and waiting 30 min to test again to see if his number is rising on its own? So after the 30 min if it was above 139 than i would give his normal dose but if it’s still under than I give .25. Is this correct? If I have to stall for more than 1/2 hour then I just add the same amount of time on at the other end? When you say if the BG is flat after stalling to give a reduced shot .. what does flat mean? Does that mean if it’s not going up?
lastly.. I’m sorry I’m not sure what you mean by is my cat carb sensitive and how much does his BG rise after eating. How soon after he eats would I need to test to find out how much his BG rises? Thank you for your help!

You have it right. By flat I mean hasn’t gone up or down. By carb sensitive i mean does his bg go up a lot after eating carbs. Getting a test at +1 will show you how much his bg typically rises after eating.

Ok great I will do that. Thank you!
