6/17 Brat 213 amps

That’s correct. Glad she is eating. I just flunked giving sub-q fluids. Git her wet and wasted 2 needles. My neighbor is going to come over and help me soon. More diarrhea and only willing to ear a little chicken breast.

You'll catch on. They are pretty easy as long as the cat is cooperative. I've had 2 cats with kidney disease and did sub-q fluids for them. It is a short term thing?
Did you say she wouldn't eat baby food? Brat loved the baby food. I also got a rotisserie chicken and she ate a little of that. Cats are so picky but especially when they're feeling sick. Still no medicine for diarrhea?

She eats a little chicken but poops it all out. All I was given was the probiotic and prednisolone. Also giving ondansetron and cyproheptadine. I gave fluids to both Tiffany and Max. I am having issues with the tubing I was given. My neighbor came to help and I got the fluids flowing again but she got wet. I know she got some. We will try again tomorrow.

Everything is about the same here. Hope things are better for you. :bighug:

She ate chicken this morning and us glued to my lap. I’m going to syringe baby food with the psyllium husk and probiotics a little later when I give the prednisolone.

Is Brat eating the baby food?

glad she ate this morning. I might have to syringe Brat. She’s eating but not enough. I can see her dropping weight. She did better when she was on prednisone but vet says no. Maybe it will help Chai.
I hope so.

@tiffmaxee I hope your girl is doing better then mine. I am beginning to think that no prednisone is causing her to sleep all the time. She is not eating well either.
I’ve been pretty upset all day. I might see if the other steroid you mentioned would be an option. I checked PedMeds.com but they don’t carry it or at least it didn’t pop up when I searched. I’m going to call the vet in the morning. We have had the quality of life talk so I’m not sure if she’ll think it’s a good idea.
How are you and your girls?

Budesonide needs to be compounded I believe. If you are talking quality of life I’d either try it or go back on prednisolone and just give insulin as needed.
Chai got her fluids about 45 minutes ago. Just gave her ondansetron and cyproheptadine. She’s eating a little of her lamb. Won’t eat the chicken I just cooked for her. Mocha wants to eat everything thanks to zyrtec and not having stomach issues, knock wood, anti jinx.

I think I will start her back on prednisone. Thanks for your input. She’s had a rough couple of days. I’ve been in tears.
I’m so glad to hear about Chai eating a bit. I understand what you go through with Mocha wanting to eat it all. Mine are the same. It’s impossible to just try to get Brat to eat. The others are always around for their share. I have 3 others older than Brat!
Will give the steroid in the a.m. and I’ll keep you posted. I should still test her BG at least twice a day right?

Yes, test her at least twice each cycle. I hope she starts to feel better. :bighug:

Had to report good news…Brat got her dose of Prednisone this morning and she’s so much better. I have fed her throughout the day and it wasn’t until tonight she started eating and seemed hungry. I’m so relieved.
How are you and yours? Any improvements?

That’s good.

Chai didn’t eat much today. Down a pound in a month. Eating a little right now so I guess cyproheptadine and ondansetron kicked in. Depending on gi results might need endoscopy. Best case scenario is bacterial.

Oh no, poor baby. How did they test GI? They can drop weight fast. It’s hard watching them.

We had a rough day yesterday. She stopped eating and I tried everything I could think of. Finally, she ate dry food. I know I shouldn’t give it to her but that’s the only food she ate yesterday. I did syringe some wet food just to get something in her. She is so skinny.

@tiffmaxee how is your baby doing? Did you get test results?

You did the right thing. Food is essential and when not feeling well give her whatever she will eat. Does she get ondansetron?

Ondansetron is generic for zofran. It’s a human med. Cerenia is what vets have although my vet dues have ondansetron too.

I called earlier and waiting on a call back. Probably let me know at rush hour….

They just called and you are correct. They prescribed Cerenia.

This is so frustrating. Yes, vet agreed she might be nauseous but why didn’t she realize that? While I was there picking up the medicine I left a note about
Budesonide and they just called. Yes, she agrees that would be better for Brat since she has diabetes. @tiffmaxee thanks for being my vet! This is so crazy. I think she thought I’d just put her down due to all her health issues. Another thing: 30 1 mg pills at my vet $95. but I checked Chewy and the same amount is $20. I swear, if my cats weren’t so old I’d look for a new vet. My regular vet sold the business a few years ago but still came in during transition. He finally retired a couple of months ago. I still might have to change…
Sorry for the rant. Is Chai eating yet?

I’ve lately had to learn about every single thing I do. So frustrating. I never heard back yesterday from my vet or the ER so I went to the specialty clinic this morning. The ER agreed the labs do not make sense. I was told I should have them redone. I told her I should not have to pay and that I will wait for the gi panel to decide when. If I had Chai with me I would have made then do it right then at no charge but I was alone.

I moved to the internal medicine receptionist and asked why no Emil from the vet exam and was the gi panel back. Yes, BUT, the vet is away this week and the one there is seeing pets and will need to review before they would be given to me. They shorted me a cyproheptadine pill but could not give it to me until the vet reviewed even though I had talked to him about this. No phone call yet. I was holding back tears and she saw that.

I asked my vet if I should stop the prednisolone and he agreed! We will talk tomorrow once I have the results.

Diarrhea continues as does inappetence.
I hope the changes work for Brat.

I thought you’d have some results by now. If she’s anything like Brat she’s losing weight rapidly. I hope they have called you by now.
I’ve gotten creative with food. I just get a smorgasbord for Brat and see what she’ll eat. I don’t give her any regular cat food but bought some little pop up sticks. She ate the whole thing. The cat milk in small containers are a hit so I mix it with the Smalls. We had cube steak for dinner so I cut some up very small and she ate that. She’s not eating enough but I’m trying.
Keeping my finger crossed for both our girls to get through this.

The results were in but the vet is away this week and nobody bothered to tell me. I had to go there and then call again to finally get them. Now I need to talk to my vet. The intern said to supplement folic acid and see how she does. The internist will be back Wednesday. I’ll speak to my vet tomorrow.

Well that’s interesting. Maybe it’s something simple like a vitamin deficiency. I sure hope they figure it out soon.

Brat just ate Delectables again. Maybe Chai would eat them too.
I’m trying to decide on letting Brat go. It’s so hard but she’s not improving and looks miserable. I hate this.

Unfortunately it doesn’t tell us the cause and I Susie t she will need a biopsy to see if IBD or scl or????

Did you get the nausea medication and budesonide? A vet told me when Tiffany was in a similar situation to try everything first so there were no regrets. He also said she would make me decide when as she would not make that easy. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I have the nausea medication and started it yesterday. I haven’t received the Budesonide yet but am giving her prednisone until I receive it. I want it to turn around but….
She was 171 amps and I gave her a .25 dose of insulin. I keep hoping if I can get all this in check it will make a difference. I don’t know but I’m struggling watching her.
Are the treatments for Chai the same for either? How soon could they do the biopsy? Seems like this is taking a long time to diagnose and treat and all the while she’s not eating. That’s dangerous for her.

@tiffmaxee
I had to let Brat go today. She had lost so much weight and wasn’t eating and not moving around. Hard decision but wanted you to know. Thank you once again for all you do and especially for helping me.

I hope you have found some answers for your baby?

I’m so sorry Patty. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug: Crying with you!

I am pretty sure Chai has some form of lymphoma and praying it’s a treatable one. Ran blood this afternoon and will have an endoscopy this week.

thank you. You’ve been a great support.

I hope she doesn’t have Lymphoma. That’s scary but I know some are better than others so praying you can treat it with success. She’s so young. Has she been eating any better?

She ate baby food today. Maybe the kids xtra ondansetron. Maybe the combo if ondansetron and cerenia with cyproheptadine. It comes right out the other end though.

that’s not good if she’s not absorbing any nutrients. Brat started eating a small amount of Lil’ Soups. I was desperate too. She liked the baby food for a bit. Are you able to treat the diarrhea?

Once the endoscopy is done I can start treating I think.

Do you have a schedule for the endoscopy? I’ll be checking in to see how you are.
I’ll probably disappear again. I pray I won’t be back but if I am, I hope you’ll be here. :bighug:
I still have 4 old cats. All over 16 so you never know.
I’m pretty gutted by losing Brat. She was a unique cat.

She’s getting it tomorrow. I dint know when I get the results but will ask when I pick her up. Again I am so sorry about Brat but you put her above your feelings and she knows how much she was loved. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Most likely lymphoma. Tissue pale and thickened. He will be surprised if not. :(:nailbiting:

Did they mention treatment or have you got that far? I’m so sorry. I hope treatment will help her. Such a terrible disease.
I got bad news today too. Teddy has kidney disease. Since I’ve had another cat with it I know where to go for help. I just hate it for him.

I won’t know for sure which kind until the biopsies come back but it’s not looking good. Sorry about CKD but it’s very treatable especially if there are not any other medical conditions.

Oh no, that’s not good news. How devastating. Sometimes life is not fair. You have done everything you could to take great care of them. :bighug:
How is Mocha handling seeing Chai sick?

Teddy is hypothyroid and with both diseases she said maybe a year. He is 17.

Thanks Patty. So appreciated. Not back yet. She’s eating baby food but poops it all out. How’s Teddy?

Teddy is good. I’m looking for food for him. I’m on Tanya’s CKD site. Got a call about Mia and her bloodwork shows hypothyroid. I’m running a geriatric cathouse here. I knew something wasn’t right with her.

I hate she hasn’t started eating better. I guess baby food is better than no food. Still saying prayers for you and Chai. I’m sure you are anxious to get started on a treatment.
