i am overwhelmed by the kindness and support from you all. It really feels like your thoughts and prayers have helped Lando. Its truly amazing that at 18 he continues to get better.

One unfortunate thing is that Landos AMPS was 246. I hoped with such low numbers on .1u and no sugar in his urine, he might magically stay low ;) oh well.. i started him back on insulin today.

i did not hear him go to the litterbox ( 2 ft away from his bed) and he seemed to get out of the box without kicking everything up and leaving a “trail” back to his bed… so i am hopeful there.

he ate some churu for the first time today and i will try to see if he will eat some of his mid day meal on his own.

if anyone has any experience with diabetic neuropathy and thinks i should re address it with the doctor, i would love to hear. I asked her about it and she was convinced it was extreme weakness + low potassium. ( btw i have a video that im sure i could post if needed)

thank you everyone. You each, individually are such a comfort and huge help :bighug:

Lando is amazing and so are you! The power of the FDMB is amazing! It’s not surprising his bg has gone up. He does well on a small dose of insulin fortunately. If he were my cat I would just try to keep him mostly in blue and green. That will keep him under renal threshold.

How low is his potassium? I have supplemented with Now brand powder which is super concentrated and only a tiny amount needed.

Share the video for those that have dealt with neuropathy. It very well is not that with his levels so good.

Thank you SO much Elise for all your kind words and wisdom. YES, agreed on the insulin plan moving forward. I will post a pic of the potassium powder and video. I will also request a digital copy of his labs ( my vet doesnt automatically send them ; we discussed on phone)

thanks again, and i can agree more on how amazing the folks here at FDMB are <3

The only thing I can offer is that when my first sugar cat Luigi was DX'd, he had bad neuropathy in his hind legs, and did in fact have low potassium... So it can be a factor.

He was on a supplement until his levels came up, and the insulin did assist once he was regulated.

Sending good JuJu and prayers for Lando!

Thank you Deb! That is helpful. Did luigi go on any other meds to help the neuropathy?

Thank you elise and cecile. I have b 12 so i will put that in rotation. I will also read the link!

poor lando and his bad luck :( he was in a good numbers range, im surprised blues and greens ended up with neuropathy

Do you think he might have arthritis? If tge B12 doesn’t help enough as it takes time I wonder if gabapentin might help.

He may have arthritis on top of this, but the not being able to walk happened in one day. Also the x ray showed some bad stuff on the end of his spine at the tail ( unaligned or something. Since the vet says he reacts to all the prick tests its not paralysis , so maybe its a thrown out back? I have no clue.

he was having a bm in the litterbox, started howling and meatloafing and that is how all of this started.

Here’s a link on neuropathy. You don’t need the brand Zobaline though. .

Ok! I read the link and a few things jumped out at me. 1- it talks about the low potassium levels causing this and since the vet says it can take over a week for the levels to come back… maybe i wait just a beat. Also lando is NOT walking on his “ hocks” he is still walking on his toes but weakly. Thank you elise. I will continue to investigate. Lando is REALLY seeming more alert, so he needs to not be sitting in a bed all day ( poor guy)
