3/11 Apache amps 271 ,254+2,156+6,84+8 ,102+8 .5, 90+9, 72+10,98+10.5,126,pmps173,287+2,383+6

134 half hour later
So that's pretty flat accounting for meter variance. You could:
  • continue to stall for another 20-30 minutes. Keep in mind that sometimes BGs fall without food which could make the decision to shoot more difficult. Also this puts you off schedule if that's a concern for you.
  • Give a reduced dose. The higher depot will affect the first half of the cycle and give you some more action.
  • Skip and shoot whenever you want tomorrow morning. The last time you did that she ended up in pinks.
May I ask, what's your gut telling you to do?

wait till sure numbers are coming up, schedule is not imperative

166 half hour later. what ya think. ive never shot lower than 219 so i need some advise
You hold the syringe! That being said Lantus is different than Vetsulin in that it gives flatter cycles. Like today for example, you saw the majority of the action later in the cycle and she got there slowly as opposed to Vetsulin which gave book ends.
If you shoot, can you monitor? Do you have honey or syrup just in case.?

im gonna wait another half hour or till i see yellow. that wasnt a very reassuring answer
LOL fair enough.
If you're asking what I would do,I would take the shot now because I've been at this awhile and Apache is coming up in BG without food. I would give a little less than normal dinner now. I would save the rest of her dinner portion for +1 and +2.

thats a better answer. i teach people to drive racecars and that was comparable to me getting out of the car, the student saying im not quite ready to negotiate this track,,,,and me sayin...hey ur in the driver seat pal ! but watch out for that first turn. its a doosey

For the title I would "3/11 Apache AMPS 271, +8 84, +12 126, PMPS 166" is that's when Ric gave the shot.
When you're ready @Apache & Ric and no rush for the SS in the PMPS column "144, @12.5 166" and color it blue.
Then in the title would it be 126 +12 then then 134 +12.5 then 166 +13 then 176 right ?
I hate when you have to figure out the numbers when you stall, thank god I really never had to stall for Tyler or I would be up sh*ts creek lol

Good job Ric.

I'm glad you posted a thread for today and I hope you keep doing that. I’ve been peeking in periodically to see how you and Apache are faring (you’re in good hands).

Interesting thing about your race car experience. I used a car analogy years ago when explaining FD to a newbie … basically said that starting out it’s like driving a new unknown car — you want to start out slow and steady until you get a feel for how that car handles, with a goal of keeping these wheels on the road and not crashing. :) Feline diabetes isn’t all that different. Every cat is different (ECID), so it’s good to start with a conservative insulin dose, collect BG data, and figure out how the cat is going to respond. Safety first.

Likewise, one of the hardest things for new Lantus users to grasp is that dosing is based on the lowest point in the cycle, not the highs (so many folks want to react to a high BG by increasing dose). My analogy for that is bungee jumping — doesn’t matter how high you start, you don’t want to go crashing into the rocks below. The lowest BG numbers guide your dosing decisions! You’ve seemed to catch on to that quickly.

There’s a lot more to learn so I’m glad you’re sticking around. I still learn new things from others around here even all these years in. Heading back into lurker mode now. :)
