2/27 AMPS: 306 :)

I would not hold the dose till Saturday. Holding on to a dose when the numbers are not where you want them to be, can lead to glucose toxicity. It's a temporary form of insulin resistance where the cat's body gets used to higher numbers and you need a lot more insulin to break through to good numbers. You have enough data to know what he did on 1U and he did not drop below 200.

Gotcha. What do I do about not being able to monitor though? I have no way to make sure he's alright for 9 hours into his dose and it worries me a bit since I don't have enough data or really understand enough about the curve on Lantus. I guess I can increase as soon as the DEPO has settled which should be tomorrow correct? Because I should be seeing the full effects of Lantus by tomorrow evening?

I think you might already be seeing the full effects of the current dose. With TR, it is recommended to "hold the initial dose 5-7 days unless the numbers tell you otherwise. Kitties experiencing high flat curves or prone to ketones may want to increase the starting dose after 3 days (6 consecutive cycles)." I know you are not following TR but SLGS, but 1U might be too low a dose to switch to Lantus on. The strong initial reaction he had to Lantus might have been a flash in the pan. While I too thought that it made sense to reduce by a whole 0.5U unit after Day 1, it now seems that that was too much of a reduction and he definitely needs more insulin.

Being able to test till +3 every AM and test in the PM cycle is much more than most people following SLGS do or are able to do! :-)

What does Lando do for food when you are at work? Do you have an autofeeder?

I got really lucky to have my hours changed for the last 3 days to get those extra tests in this weekend! Today through Friday though I'll be gone until about his +9 though.

If the depo is filled then I guess I could increase tonight! I can set some alarms to check him a couple times overnight to be sure he's good :)

I do have a little timed auto feeder that has 2 segments. I plan to get one with more after rent is all paid hehe. I usually set it for +2 or +3 and then one for about +5 or +6 just depending on the day and how hungry he acts in the morning (sometimes he wants a bite to eat an hour after breakfast haha) but it's kind of a hit or miss if the other cat is being sneaky I can't lock either of them up without them shredding my carpet lol!

I can come home and check him at +5 some days for my break but it's a quick pop in and out due to time constraints. I think 1.25u is a good dose to move to move up to for sure. I just need to practice on the syringe and study it (dang that .25 is small! I'm gonna need calipers soon!)
