That is really strange because Google says that they do not delete files when a subscription ends, you just can't edit them until you resubscribe or bring your drive capacity down to the "free" limits. They only delete files after 2 years of non payment.

I’m sure I did it. When I logged in to look at spread sheet it was red and said cannot be modified and I had not seen my email subscription ended yet. So I was in there clicking free up space and I probably deleted it.

go to drive.google.com on desktop, preferably using Chrome. In the top right, click on the "info" icon (black circle with the letter i), see image below

This opens up a My Drive sidebar with two tabs, click on the 'activity' tab


This will show a log of any activity in your drive folder, including if anything was deleted, permanently deleted, etc

I looked and it’s there in permanent deleted with a line through it and I can’t open it
 
it may not get your SS back but it will at least show what happened to it

in my case, the activity log showed I permanently deleted 22 items from my drive folder on 12/26/22. I never did any such thing, and Google support is useless to help me so my boy's SS is gone forever.

supposedly Google keeps such files for 60 days and they can be recovered somehow but I have tried to get google support and it's like talking to a wall. My 60 days will be up in about 2 weeks

if you get anywhere with Google let me know

I thought I was freeing up photos space. Guess this is what I get for laying in bed half asleep not paying attention to what I’m doing lol

I’m not going to call. Oreo has been on the same 0.1 dose for months and crashes with anything more so we will just keep its going. I’ve come to be ok with him being on a maintenance dose. He’s happy he’s maintained his weight.
