Hi all, I’m trying to purchase of a box of five Solo Star Lantus pens. I’ve just gotten a new prescription from my vet. (Followed your guide with no date of birth, no specific dose on script)
Previously, I haven’t had any luck getting the Lantus coupon to work (nor the Good RX coupon either) and I’m wondering if anyone has specific success ideas for a pharmacist to be able to process it.
Do you think it’s better to use a large chain like CVS, Walgreens etc or a small private pharmacy to have more success with the coupon?
Thanks for your help.

CVS told me they would probably be able make the goodrx coupon work but then I ended up going with a single pen of Basaglar (generic lantus). I think you just have to go there and try. But if they can’t do it, then I think a 5 pack of one of the generic brands is much cheaper than Lantus brand so you may get that for a good price anyway. Generics like Basaglar are as effective as Lantus. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply. I’ve seen that Good Rx disqualifies a pet when you have to answer that question to generate the coupon.

And a follow up question, does the Sanofi Lantus coupon attached work for the Lantus SoloStar pens?
Thanks for any help before I head to the pharmacy.

Sorry no one responded. The image of the coupon didn't come through.

Here's an old thread posted by someone who could use the GoodRx coupon:

Another option is to go for the Lantus/Glargine generic called Semglee. You would need your vet to give you a prescription for Insulin Glargine pens.

Thanks Bhooma, I saw that old post and wondered if there was any newer information available. The coupon I tried to attach was the one the Lantus website generates when you answer their eligibility questions.
I see there’s an issue attaching photos or documents to a post.

Bit late to this thread, but I switched my cat over to generic lantus and was able to get 5 pens for $75 at Costco with their membership. I think last time I used a coupon at Walmart it only took like $3 off :/

THANK YOU!!!! I was just looking into switching from the vial of Lantus to the pens to at least not waste so much of the vial. But finding out there is a cheaper version of the pens is a Godsend for sure! I just reached out to my vet to ask them about calling in the Semglee pens to my Costco.

Recent order for Leo's five Glargine pens at Costco was $75.28.

Sounds like the vet needs to update to allow the generic brand, maybe.

Text when order was ready said:
"ORDER READY
LEO, Rx INSULIN GLAR 100U/M INJ MYLA is filled and ready for pick-up at Costco Pharmacy Qty: 15
Amount due is $75.28."

So I'm calling around my area in Virginia Beach and some people carry these Semglee pens and some don't. My costco does not and apparently can't even order it. I've had a few quotes from people that carry it vary from $45 per pen to over 400 per box of 5. What the heck!!! Can someone who is getting the generic filled show me a picture of what exactly you are getting or asking for?

I got the box of 5 pens of Lantus Solo Star for $35 using the coupon. I didn’t want the generic. My vet wants me to use brand only. maybe you could use the brand name instead of the generic.

I've had a call in for two day to the vet to talk to them. I haven't heard back yet so I don't know what there opinion of generic vs. brand really is. I was just trying to even figure out who in my area even had what since it seems to be an issue. What's the coupon for the Solo Star pens? When I originally filled the RX for the vial of Lantus I was told no coupon because they are for humans and you can't use any Good RX or coupons etc. for pets.

My understanding is that the Good Rx coupon won’t work since it asks if they are a pet and disqualifies us from using their coupon.
The coupon I posted and was able to use at CVS was generated from the Lantus website which offered $35 and would apply to either a vial or the pens of Lantus.

I didn't know the generic brand existed until I was notified at Walmart to save money. I called my vet and they said as long as it was a generic of lantus it would be fine for my cat and the pharmacist agreed. But for sure check with your vet so they know! The pens I get are by Mylan and are just called Insulin Glargine yfgn.

It looks like the top pen in the pic. I heard these were also relatively new to my Costco so they might not be available in all areas? I was quoted about $400 for a pack of Lantus Solostar pens at Costco before they knew i wanted the generic, so I bet thats where your higher price came from.

Also the NDC that I gave them for the exact pens was 49502-394-75 if that helps. I think I found this in a previous thread here about generic Lantus.
