Just making sure giving a Probiotic/Prebiotic is ok. The one I got has Fructooligosaccharides in it. Based on google, it seems to be an 'alternative to sugar'....so I assume it's ok.

In what form? We sneak meds into a non diabetic cat using probiotic yogurt. Our vet said that was just fine.
As for anything 'alternative to sugar' my mom used to bake with a sugar substitute which is very toxic to dogs.

It's a powder that you add to food

What probiotic did you get? If he’s having GI issues, the best one is S Boulardiii. I’m not sure why there be any form of sugar added to probiotics so I’d stay away from it if I were you.

The website looks good and it said it’s made with a Boulardii but I don’t see it in the ingredients. Still not sure why they needed to add a sweetener to a tasteless probiotic. I’d contact them and ask

Is this the product you're using? https://ferapetorganics.com/collections/digestion/products/probiotic-supplement

It contains fructooligosaccharides (FOS), inulin, and Acacia listed in addition to the probiotic strains. I searched pubmed for these ingredients alongside the search term diabetes. Now keep in mind that these studies were done on HUMAN diabetics (and the last study was done on rats) but from what I can tell, they don't negatively affect blood glucose levels in diabetics. They either have neutral effects or positive ones.

FOS study: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/9925124/

Inulin study: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3963683/

Acacia study: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23860893/

So it is probably okay but if your kitty's blood sugar starts rising after you start it, switch to something without the added ingredients.

I can personally vouch for s. boulardii. I use this product with Tessa: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0056GCLVO?th=1

It says it’s made with S Boulardii but I didn’t see it in the ingredients list…

So does the one you use have any taste or smell? Nothing gets by my cat- if there's a slight smell or taste, she will walk away!

Does S Boulardii have any taste or smell? My cat can pick up on the slightest thing and won't touch it.

It has a very slight taste but it's not bad. It's a malty flavor but it's just barely there. Even my very picky non-diabetic cat will eat food with it mixed in.
