Hello

I'm on a start slow go slow
I did 9 days on 1 unit and then decide to increase on a Fat 1 unit - 1.25 unit

not sure if I'm doing the right thing .
Can someone check his numbers ? he drop now at +8 at 5.2 ... shall I decrease again at 1 unit ?

Hello Stefania and Noah! Welcome to the LBL forum! :)

I am linking your previous threads on Main for continuity:

With SLGS a drop below 90 mg/dl (5 mmol/L) would earn a reduction. He hasn't dropped below 5 so you would continue with the 1.25U dose. Feed a little of his usual food to prevent him from dropping too low.

Does he get small meals during the day or night?
Using Food to Manipulate the Curve

Yes, fasting 2 hours before the shot is good. When does he get the 2 small meals in the day/night? You also want to give a little food after a test - especially if the BG is dropping.

Did he get food at +8? When he was 5.2? If not, please feed him. How long till the PM shot is due?

I see from your first post on the Main Forum that you were asking about the TR protocol. It is a more aggressive protocol than SLGS and has helped many cats get regulated faster.

With TR increases can be as often as every 3-5 days. Reductions are earned when the BG falls below 50 mg/dl or 2.8 mmol/L (on a human meter). The aim is to keep the cat in the range of 50-100 (which is the normal BG range for cats). To follow TR, you would need to get at least one more test per cycle in addition to the pre-shot one i.e. 2 tests per cycle or 4 tests per day. You would also need to be feeding only LC canned food and no dry food.

Now that you've started getting tests in the PM cycles as well, you could consider TR. Is that something that would work for you?

yes I'm considering the TR the problem is that I won't be able to test him every day at middle cycle as sometimes I'm out of the house all day ...... so I want to start when I'm sure I can really do that middle cycle test. Am I correct in thinking this ?

pm shoot will be in 4 hours ... I will be home in 3 and half hour as I'm at work now
I will not be around for your PMPS but I will tag @tiffmaxee who will be. With SLGS you can shoot any number over 90, if you can monitor. He might just bounce from the greens he saw at +8.

Do you mean that you cannot get any test after AMPS? Not even say a +2?

Hi. You won't need a mid cycle test every cycle. Most cats onset around +2. For Max it was between +2-3 unless he started low. If a cat is lower than at preshot it might be an active cycle and so you would either test again before you leave or leave at mc to keep him safe while you are away. An auto feeder set at appropriate times can help while away and asleep.

You will shoot 1.25 tonight.

Wow preshoot number to

So preshoot number night he is 20 ! Very high .. yes I have an automatic feeder with ice pack that I use for days I’m not home

He's bouncing from the 95 bg as he is not used to normal bg. The liver panics and goes into protection mode. It is to be expected. Bounces can take clear quickly or take 6 cycles to clear. It is safe to shoot the full dose.

Thank you so much! shall I stay up tonight to test his glucose ?

No. If like last night no more tests needed. If a larger drop I would get one more test. Post the +2.
