Hello all!!! :bighug::bighug:

I 'd like to share Chnoudi' s news and some concerns that I have.

Her numbers are really fine she is on 0.10 now , but she started having diarrhea on 12/6. Not many, she had maximum 2 diarrheas per day (there was blood in one of them) and I called the vet. He advised to change her food to prescription gastrointestinal for 2 days. This pate was 15% but, fortunately, her numbers weren't affected! I also gave her forti flora.

Everything went perfect, diarrhea stopped BUT.... Chnoudi hasn't pooped since then!! Today is the 4th day with no poop at all. (Last night I started her normal food again.)

I'm so worried. Why is this happening? Is it normal?

I suppose I have to take her to the vet but I d like your opinion first.

Thank you in advance!!!! ❤️❤️❤️

It could be the sudden increase in fiber, those prescription GI foods have lots of fiber in them and that can slow down the digestive process. I would call the vet and ask for their advice, they might suggest a tiny bit of Miralax to get things moving again.

If she gets diarrhea again, I would get a stool sample to the vet and ask for a PCR fecal test. They're a little bit more expensive than a regular fecal float but the test looks for way more stuff including bacterial infections that can be cleared up with a course of antibiotics. Tessa and her sister both had diarrhea awhile back. The regular fecal float came back clear but the PCR test found a clostridium infection and they got antibiotics to take for it. Tessa still gets soft stool that leans towards diarrhea sometimes but nothing like before.

The truth is that there was potato in one of the flavors that I gave her!!! I realized it later, I got shocked.

Hmm I see! Yes, I have to call the doctor. The thing is that I'm really disappointed from the vets, thats why I am always seeking here for information... Your advice are really really helpful @tessa's mom !! Thank you veeeeeeery much!!!!!!!! :kiss::kiss:

Hi Melita. Sometimes canned pure or fresh pumpkin can help both constipation and diarrhea. Just a teaspoon once or twice a day. Since the food helped and caused constipation I think it might help as the food likely had too much fiber. That is great that he's down to 0.10. I hope the issue resolves quickly.

Pumpkin? Ohh amazing! I'll see how its going and I'll follow your advice!!! :bighug: I hope it's just a constipation and nothing worse. Luckily, she seems happy and active!

Thank you so much, Elise!!! ❤️

Forti Flora is not a great probiotic for cats as it's only a single strain of probiotic. There are better options. A lot of people give human versions of probiotics.

If Chnoudi doesn't like pumpkin, other types of squash might work. Other ideas on this website: https://felineconstipation.org/
