Why was the cat so small? She only ate condensed milk.

Mom was in the hospital so I missed some days. I'm behind on the spreadsheet, we are doing okay with diabetes but having an asthma issue as Squeaky heads towards end of life, and I'm wondering if anyone here has a suggestion.

Squeaky is 15 years old and has had asthma for 14 years. We've been using an inhaler for 13 years. Now that he is in home hospice/end of life, he's not breathing very deeply and therefore, the flap isn't moving on the inhaler when we try to use it-- so he's not getting any flovent. He's been sputtering a little. I don't know if he's just not breathing much or if he's holding his breath to avoid the inhaler, well it's just not working!
I have some old (2020) prednisilone that I could give him instead -- pilling is still working okay -- and as the vet is slow to respond, I'm wondering if y'all have any advice on dosing. Squeaky is about 9 pounds now. I have 5 mg tablets.

Do you have any dosing suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Excellent question for the vet. I can tell you what my IBD cat gets as a pred dose, but it's for a cat that is in good shape and the pred is not for asthma. None of us are vets, so can't factor all the things currently going on with Squeaky. I do agree that at this point, I wouldn't worry about prednisolone's effect on his blood sugar. You just want him to be as comfortable as possible.

I hope your Mom is okay. I don't have any suggestions about the pred. I hope you can get an answer from the vet. Sending prayers.

I hope you can get in touch with your vet today and that your mom is okay. :bighug:

Thanks everyone for your comments and good wishes.

Eventually the vet responded to my message with a phone call, and said 5 mgs a day.

Yes I do want him to be comfortable. He is so far doing okay as far as I can tell. Except for the inhaler. He doesn't walk well, but he stops and rests. Every once in a while he purrs a little, I can tell it is hard for him now. Sending hugs back to everyone and scritches for your kitties. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:
