Millie's weekend was really all over. I work all day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, hence my choice to do SLGS, even though I test a lot when I am home. I had bought a timed feeder for her, since she likes to graze, and her numbers stay more even when she does. However, this weekend she decided she didn't like any food, in particular, and isn't willing to eat out of the feeder yet. When I got up, to take food away 2 hours before her AMPS, she hadn't eaten all of her food from the night before, much less the timed feeder, so had access before her test. When I got home from work one night, the feeder hadn't advanced, so she had access to food up until I got home, almost at PMPS time. However, it didn't look like she had eaten recently. Then Sunday morning was crazy and I had the suspicion that she got her first fur shot. Sure enough, her numbers look like it. So, we basically had a dose increase this morning and I have tested every 2 hours. Her nadirs have seemed to trend at 3-4 hours. Sure, enough, it's what happened today. We'll see how it is at PMPS +4. She is eating better today, although I am feeding her through the day, not the timed feeder. This week will be interesting at 1.5 units and, maybe if I don't screw up and she continues to eat, we'll march onward. I suck at being sleep deprived.

Is she not eating because she is bored of the food or doesn't want to eat from the feeder? Do you test her for ketones every now and then?

I haven't managed to test for ketone with the urine strips...wrong place, wrong time. I have bought a meter but just got it. Will have to break it out. I have a feeling that she doesn't like the food cold and I put ice in the feeder, since it's there all day. She also changes up which FF pate she likes. She almost always likes Sheba Perfect Portions, but evidently not cold. I use it as a treat during the day. She scarfs it right up when it's not cold. I usually water down her FF a bit with hot water from my kettle. She always acts like she's fine, totally cooperative about her tests and has settled into being in her own room. I am testing again at +4 and will pull out the ketone meter.

That's good! :-)

I know you're worried about the 2-3 days when you are working and cannot test (and I tend to be like a dog with a bone. LOL), but I really think you should look at TR. Even temporarily. Just till you get her to better numbers. You are testing enough the rest of the week and have the data to know how she responds.

I see that you've been able to get a +2 on a couple of days over the weekend as well. I'm just suggesting that you increase her more often till she gets to the mid to low 100s and then switch back to SLGS if that's what you prefer.

I'm sorry if you're feeling hounded by me and I promise I'll stop after this. I don't want you to feel like TR is the only way or that there's no support to be had here unless you're following TR. I just feel bad that you're giving so much of yourself to testing and monitoring her and not seeing results sooner.

I appreciate it but my fear is that I run really close margins on the weekends, with work, and I couldn't stall for 30 minutes if she tested low in her AMPS. I read the posts from the people who are doing TR and they are scary to me. The fur shot on Sunday was because I was tight on time and didn't put her in her normal position for her shot. I'm not good working with a sleep deficit and there is certainly a deficit right now. I'm so much better with a routine and I'm the tortoise, not the hare, in most things. My plate is kind of full with a lot of other things, right now, and I don't want to make a deadly mistake because I'm tired.

There is a flip side to this. Because I have a human meter, just waiting for my vet to relax a little, I decided to test myself a couple of weeks ago, alongside Millie in the morning. I had my gall bladder removed last summer and my BG was a little high last April during a checkup. When I took it along with Millie's, it was a lot higher than it should have been. So, I am monitoring myself, along with her. I checked myself for ketone tonight, along with her. We both read LO.

BTW, I am kind of a geek/wonk about stuff like this, understanding the process. I don't have a problem with slow results, as long as I'm not harming her and as long as we're moving mostly forward. I see results in her not fighting me about her ears, in being in her testing spot before I get there and seeing a slow movement. If I feel more competent, I will consider TR. I'm just too whipped right now to take it on.

Your vet is insisting that you use a pet meter? Human meters are just as accurate and the strips are much cheaper. Some folks here use human meters and run the occasional curve with a pet meter to appease their vet.

I understand. I will not bug you about it again. :bighug:

As soon as I go through the container of strips that I have opened, I'm switching to human strips. It was a compromise for everyone to feel okay with me being a bull in a China shop with this. I am a TNVR reject...good with the TNV, not so much with the R. I have too many cats and the practice is really good about working with me...not willing to upset that boat. It's the vet who's fresh out of vet school who wanted to go to Lantus. She thinks the graph is brilliant and likes it that I am jumping in with both feet about testing. She wanted me to increase last week, as you did. Anyway, next step, human meter and getting Millie used to the timed feeder.
