SS UPDATED

I can't win! I didn't remember to get the community dish up and Fluffy got into it. Needless to say it made his numbers higher.:oops::banghead:

As for the post on using food to manipulate BG, I can't seem to wrap my brain around it and I still don't understand what NADIR is.

Am I to understand that feeding Fluff half can wet food in Am at AMPS time should be reduced to ____ and then give him more at +1, +2, +3? But then how much should I feed him at these times?

Typically, Fluff has not been getting dry food except for 2 reasons:
1) accidental if I forget to pick up the community dish
2) if his BG is below 100, then I give him 1 tbsp. of Dr. Elsey's LC dry food as a topper

Dr. Elsey's LC dry food drives Fluff's BG up, therefore, he does not get it unless he absolutely needs it.

I got it down that during AMPS/PMPS that Fluff should abstain from food at least 2 hrs prior to these times, so I adhere to that protocol.\

Part of that process is getting a feel for basic concepts:
  • Onset - the length of time before insulin reaches the bloodstream & begins lowering blood glucose
  • Peak/Nadir - the lowest point in the cycle
  • Duration - the length of time insulin continues to lower blood glucose
Nadir means when their BG is at it's lowest it could happen at different times but is usually around +6 with lantus

I'm not very good at explaining this , When Elise comes on later I think she will be able to explain it to you so you can understand it
@tiffmaxee

Edit Elise if you go back to her post from yesterday I see she posted when she feeds Fluffy and you tried to explain it and gave her the link above feeding the curve

You would divide the same amount of food you feed into three portions. Save a couple teaspoons from breakfast and feed a teaspoon or two at +2 and +3.

Dry food sticks with them longer so if high carbs are needed better to give some hc wet or add a few drops of honey or syrup to the lc. If that doesn’t work then do as you have been.

Fluffy and I have the love of carbs in common.

OMG!!!! I CAN'T BELIEVE I FORGOT TO GIVE FLUFF A SHOT THIS MORNING.. I'M AT WORK FOR A 10HR SHIFT....WHAT DO I DO????:(:(

His BG is 579 right now! Do I completely skip until tonight or shoot now? NM

I gotta skip till tonight....if I shoot now @ 1:49pm I will need to stay up to do it @ 1:49 am and so on for days staying up real late I cannot do that. I need my rest or I'll be more tired and more forgetful! That's counter-productive. Question is, at what time do I give him his PMPS shot? Regular time?
