Hi all,

Previous thread here:

25 Jul 2022

We started at a good number this morning after yesterday, she isn't keen on her raw food but ate some pate, but I'm taking her in to the vet today anyway. Her gums look a bit inflamed and I'm wondering about a possible infection. Will update later in the day.

1 Unit.

Regards,

Patricia

Good luck with the vet visit Patricia. Teeth issues could be one reason why she doesn't want to eat.

Regards Onisor, it is used only in the very short term with cats. Say after recovering from a surgery etc. The most commonly used pain med in cats is Buprenorphine. Will your vet give you a script for Ondansetron (for nausea - works differently from Cerenia) and Bupe? After reading the primer on pancreatitis, do you think Whisky could be having flares of pancreatitis that cause her to feel unwell and inappetent?

Thanks for this, I'll ask about Ondansetron, and Buprenorphine, they sound like a useful addition to the meds arsenal.

The reason I thought of Onsior is because I have it on hand for George, our other cat for the times when CBD doesn't help with his arthritis and he's really battling.

I'm honestly not sure about pancreatitis, Whiskey is one of those rare cats that has no issues with showing that she's uncomfortable, and even yesterday when she didn't want to eat she was definitely not showing any signs of that.

She goes through phases of being 'off' the food she usually eats with glee, and then it is a guessing game to figure out what she will eat for a while until she goes back to the previous favorites.

Yesterday I gave her something new, a beef pate and she vomited it up and was off after, so I think that may well be the cause of the problem we had yesterday. I'm beginning to realize that she doesn't tolerate beef, so will avoid it going forward.

But I did have a good look in her mouth this morning and realized that there may be a problem with her teeth as there are some very red spots on her gums that I want them to check. If she needs a cleaning or some extractions I'll schedule them and make sure that her food and lantus is appropriately managed before she goes in for it.

If course, a possible tooth infection or issue may also be why she's dropped out of remission, and I should have checked that earlier!

I use meloxicam for my civvie Budge who struggles with arthritis. Catrophen shots don't seem to be doing anything for her. Do you get either Adequan or Cartrophen in South Africa? They may go by different brand names.

Yes, that is indeed one of the reasons that cats fall out of remission.

Definitely some teeth that need to come out and a dental required.

We are doing antibiotics for a week to get the tooth infection under control and she is booked in next Tuesday for a dental and some extractions.

Sorry for the late reply.

George (civie) seems to actually do pretty well with his arthritis on just CBD I'd say he needs an Onsior once every 3 months...or longer. But I've noticed that now he's on raw his mobility is a LOT better, he seldom even needs the CBD either. He can actually jump again!

Hopefully once she's had her dental and extractions she will be in a better place, and perhaps her BG will come down a bit too.

Vet called back to let me know that he was happy with her blood work and would be carrying on with the dental as scheduled.

Meantime she's already looking happier with an anti inflammatory and an antibiotic jab.
