07/25 Abbott PMPS 98, +2 @54

As for what most people do - I don’t even know what to say. Some people have early divers who can drop hundreds or more in an hour or two. Be thankful that Abbott likes to do things in a more orderly fashion!

Morning Suzanne!

ok that makes sense. Just trying to get an idea for how much testing I should expect to do during this stage but I guess it all depends.

Before I upped the dose, he was bouncing and clearing bounces with a late nadir around +11 or +12 but now I’m not sure. Maybe I should get some late tests in just in case?

had another question, when you eventually start dropping the dose, does it generally take about the same amount of time going down in dose?

I am trying to see if I need to get another Lantus pen.

As he gets used to green, he will spend more time in it. When he was bouncing from green he would start heading up after a couple of hours in it. As he gets regulated his patterns will change and you might have to learn the new patterns! They like to keep us on our toes.

And yes, till you figure out how he does in green, it is useful to collect data with late cycle tests.

Another green AMPS @92

I will be posting numbers today in case I need some help.

once you start to see green PS, do most members test at +1 or +2?
I’m pretty sure his onset is around +2 but not sure lately, haven’t got many +1 tests in…

A +1 was never helpful to me so unless I had a very low preshot I waited until +2 or 2.5 to test. Once you know the patterns you know if a +1 is useful. If first starting to flatten a late test is very helpful so you aren’t surprised at preshot for a low number and not knowing if on the way up. It gives you time to figure out what you will do at shot time and post for help if needed.
Abbott is doing so well.

Thanks Elise, that’s super helpful. I guess I will learn what he likes to do in these flatter cycles but I will for sure get some later tests in. I will get some today.

I did get a +8,9,10 yesterday AM cycle and managed to catch the 73 nadir at +9.

Thanks for that link. I’ve tried goodrx and I couldn’t get it as cheap as I can at Walgreens.

Also, I just called Walmart and they changed their policy and can now fill single pens. With Singlecare coupon that’s $69. Pretty good! I will post that info on another thread.

And as for how long it will take before he's ready for a trial (won't even say the letters) it's really variable from cat to cat. I do think, as the others said, you'll need that new pen. I think Abbott has a great chance.

I just filled the rx today, picking it up tomorrow.

Hello! Hopefully a more seasoned friend will come along to walk you and Abbott through this, but if it were me and no one was around I would give a spoon of the 14% or 16% and test again in 15-20 mins.

@tiffmaxee - are you still around to help?

So what is his BG now?

I would have tested at +2.5 (2 hours and 30 minutes) but please do it now if you haven’t.

If he continues to drop, you might need to add a drop of honey or Karo syrup to his food.

Really sorry but I can’t stick around…

Edited: Bhooma, glad to see you here.

So you would have fed something higher than 16% ?
Sorry. Should have been clearer. What I meant was that you would need to feed higher carbs than just low carb which is what you first fed. As you gather data on how he responds to carbs at different points of the cycle, you will get an idea of how carb sensitive he is. He came up nicely tonight. Let's see if he stays up after the carbs wear off.

I guess I would say +2.25 and +2.75 even though they are not 100% accurate (off by 5 mins each)
Ok kinda what I was thinking too.
So how long after feeding carbs after a drop like that would you test normally? I’ve seen 20 min and 30 min. Would it bump him up in 20 or is it better to wait until 30 just to make sure?

I split the difference at 25 min

Honey/syrup affects numbers faster - 15 mins wile food takes a little longer at 20 mins. Testing after 30 mins is fine unless the cat is below 50 in which case you test after 20.
