@Wendy&Neko @Bron and Sheba (GA)

Hi Wendy and Bron,

I hope you have been well. I haven't come recently as Fa was doing ok until recently.

It seems that she was not doing very well in the last two or three month.

I did bring her to vet for an annual blood test and no big issue. I can find the report later to let you know.

It seems she was doing 2.75 units to 3.5 units for a while but recently it's up to 4.75 units and still not seeing much blue and green.

I am suspecting that it might be flea allergy (i would use treatment tonight & we did not use for a while since Fa is an indoor cat but i know there is chance that she still gets fleas). Another possibility is about food allergy.

I will fill in more information later but think i would just put a post for you to have a look at her spreadsheet so far.

Thanking you in advance .

Regards
Joey

Hi Joey,
Good to hear from you. I'm glad there were no issues with Fa's blood tests.
Do you have fleas at this time of year? I guess it isn't as cold in WA as here. We are having a cold/wet winter
Did you mean to put 4.5 or 4.75 U for this morning's dose?
Is there any reason why you don't look at doing TR? You are testing enough and you might get better results.

Hi Bron,

I actually think it’s more possible to be food allergy issue as Fa had skin allergy before from biscuits (but now we are on raw).

There are scabs on her body and similar to what she had last year when we had a survey to remove some . Last time the result says it’s nothing bad but vet can not quite tell what might be the cause. At the time two or three on her face and later on I find that she must have rubbed herself a lot against the auto feeder (plastic cover) thinking she can make it open lol . I stopped using the autofeeder and then the new one on her face disappeared. She just got very sensitive skin I think.

It’s hard to take photos due to the colour of her fur but I will try tonight.

I see people mentioned (in the Facebook group ) that scabs most probably from flea allergy or food allergy.

i don’t think it’s flea but just in case because she has not used those treatment for quite a while.

i have t put in the last few BG but we are doing 4.75units now.

i can do TR I think but I am a bit behind with updating the excel lately due to very busy work and life schedule this year. My bad and I can try to do it.

Oh yes I gave her some chicken and some kiwi tinned food (wet) and now I am trying to see if stopping them will make a difference. She is only eating lamb and kangaroo mainly so I am hoping she is not allergic to them (some say they can get allergic to the food they have been eating)

thanks for helping us again and I am really hoping I can see more blue and green .

below are the notes I took after last blood test end of May.

  • Urine is fine
  • Well concentration
  • Kidney ok
  • Mild muscle damage but it’s ok & maybe from insulin use
  • Liver enzyme minor change but not concerned
  • Urea a bit higher maybe from dehydration
  • Fructosamine - fair control (not as good as “good control / not good enough ) maybe every now and then glucose not stable and up high
  • Weight seems to need control especially the side part
  • Still fat and not as muscular as before - more exercise is good
  • Maybe reduce food ( and so can lower insulin )

The urea can be a bit elevated from feeding a raw diet.
Have you tried giving zyrtec to see if that helps the allergy? She can have 1/2 a 10mg zyrtec tablet which you buy at the chemist once a day.
I give it to Clover when her allergies flare up a bit. It makes a difference.

Oh i did not know the connection between urea and raw diet. Good to know about it.

I haven't tried zyrtec yet but heard of it. Good to know you think it's ok for cats with diabetes.

What sorts of allergies does Clover have?

She seems to be allergic to chicken and pork. So I never feed her that. She eats kangaroo, beef and lamb. And she seems to get a flare up of watery eyes and goes off her food periodically …..maybe something in the air….we don’t really know.
Zyrtec help a lot with the watery eyes and helps her appetite.

oh i see. yes chicken seems to be an issue for Fa too...i stopped chicken for a week and she seems to be better

Poor thing got like a few dots/pimple like feeling on her & sometime she scratched herself and the scab came out
