Outside of his extractions and not getting insulin before his vet appointment George hasn’t had numbers this high in 9 months :( he’s acting completely fine, so not sure if something’s wrong or if it’s time for new insulin. He also could’ve dropped lower before the 76 last night (I wasn’t home so my husband did shot, but I prepared it first), but he doesn’t normally bounce into the yellows at all even when he bounces.

Oh George what’s going on? How old is the insulin? If over 5-6 months it might be losing potency. If you start a new pen or vial I’d do it asap as you will be away soon.

It’s 5 months old. I don’t have a spare one, so will have to order. I hope this is what it is and not an infection. My only other concern is that his mouth was never checked again after his extractions because he was too “fractious” so hoping he doesn’t have any kind of infection from that. I’ll order the new insulin though and hope that works!

Will he let you peek in his mouth?
He *kind of* let me look inside one side, but I’m not really sure what I’m looking for…there’s a lot going on in there with his extractions and discoloration. I’m also not sure if the puffy white parts at the bottom are just his gums or if those are some sort of inflammation.

Not at all sure but I do think the gums look pretty red in the first photo. I must confess I don’t brush my cat’s teeth. I’ll try and get a good luck today.

Those upper gums looks pretty red. I wonder if they missed something on the dental...? I would think the gums should look calmed down by now. Might be worth a recheck.

I hope the new insulin makes the difference!

Have you thought of going with the pens instead of the big vial? They last us about 45 days-ish. And we get them one at a time, individually at Costco pharmacy. They're $95 each. It's pricier this way but fresher I think.....

I know, and his numbers are looking bad too :( I’ll call the vet tomorrow and see what they say about his teeth. I would take him in a heartbeat, but he has to be sedated to be even seen, which I hate to put him through every time too.

And yes on the pens! I actually requested them this time when I put my order in yesterday…my vet initially said that they wouldn’t prescribe them since they weren’t meant for pets, but I’m hopeful this time since we don’t use them like the actually use them like the pens.

Oh yah that is hard to put him through each time! I get it. Our other orange tabby who looks just like George is that way at the vet too. He had to be sedated for the car ride.

I don't know if you're a fan of using colloidal silver, but we have used that for ourselves and for our pets too for various things, and it works like a gentle, natural antibiotic. The brand we use is Silver Wings from Amazon. You could add it to his food for awhile and see if that helps calm the gums.? Or even rub it on his gums. Just don't use it with metal (bowl or spoon). I read that makes it ineffective.

Hope you can get the pen prescription too ;)
