Fluffy just started Lantus last night @ PMPS time - 9:30 pm. It was nerve-wracking for me. His eyes seemed glazed over as if "high." We made it thru the night and this morning he seems fine. I was relieved about that! The previous insulin Novolin-N didn't work very well for us in the 4 months he's been on it. He's gonna be at 3.5U's for now.
He also got switched to Dr. Elsey's Dry Chicken Kibble as a topper (1 tbsp) last night as well. I gotta try and find a way to make all this work for him, me and the other 6 cats in my care. It's unfortunate, but I may have to buy a bag of the original dry food of Purina Naturals for the rest of the crew and isolate fluff while they eat. I truly hate to do that but as it is at this moment, I just purchased Friskies, 200 cans from 2 different stores. It is hard to come by and each time they need the pate it takes me 2+ hours of researching local store apps and online to see where I can get the food and if any deals are going on. The cost for 200 cans of pate was $160.00 after tax. Why is pet food taxable!!!! At the rate of 5 cans a day to feed 6 indoor cats. This food will last 40 days!! I have one cat that stays outdoors all summer and she doesn't like wet food. She always vomits it up. I cannot feasibly carry this financially. And the cats are not eating enough I don't think. I have one cat that was 8 lbs, Buttons, 15 yrs, that during this journey of FD with Fluffy and trying different options trying to find my way, she has lost weight and now is 7 lbs 4 oz. So her and Fluffy get a half can each 2x a day, the other cats get 1/4 of a can 2x a day and 1 can mid-cycle for Fluffy/Buttons. Fluffy has gained from 12.4 lbs to 13 lbs, I have to update Buttons weight. None of the other cats have lost weight and they are 12 yrs-17 yrs old. They lay around a lot. I have 2 boy kitties and 5 girls.
I rescued Buttons in a field locally and she was malnourished and approximately 8weeks old give or take. She was congested, her eyes glued shut, her nosed clogged with dried snot. I drove by the field and said NO I cannot do another cat! Went 3 seconds further down the road and turned around! She was meowing. I didn't see any other cats around as they may have been hiding. I saw a man drive to that field and open a large bag of cat food more than once. My dad and I observed this from across the street at a lil café we frequented. I called to her, "kitty, kitty" and she came following my voice. I reached down to grab her and her four paws all went outward. She was hissing and spatting! I calmed her and held her the whole drive home. Isolated her and gave her expired antibiotics I had. It was the best I could do. Cleaned her eyes and nose and I can't remember now if I put a humidifier in there now but once her eyes were open again that layer of skin cats have was covering half her eyes and was blood red. I prayed over her and ask the Lord to touch her little body! And I kid you not, in 3 days she was 100% better!!!! \0/ So Buttons is very special to me and she has quite the personality too!
All my cats are special but as with children you love them all for who they are and for their differences and individuality.
I truly will use my food stamps if I have to to buy them raw chicken! I made a commitment to them for life and that's just how it's going to play out!
Thank you for reading!
