Just when I got comfortable shooting in the greens, he comes up with an AMPS of 58. I'm not comfortable giving him his whole dose. Should I give him a token dose?

I monitored him until I fell asleep last night. I had given him some MC food and intended to test him again, but fell asleep and slept through the alarm.

I'm convinced he went below 50 this morning, but does that count for a reduction or do we have to see the number on the monitor?

I fed him again, which was stupid, and am monitoring in a few minutes.

His +30 is is 79 after a stout meal. Will check again in a little while and shoot if there are two stable numbers.

It’s possible he dropped under 50 last night with AMPS of 58, but we can’t say to take a reduction as we don’t really know. But be on the lookout for another drop moving forward.
It’s a pity you fed him.
Remember you are shooting what the BG will be on 2 hours. Will he eat well for you in the next two hours?

He is likely to eat well for me; he often eats a snack early on.

20 minutes after the 79 reading, he is at 68. It seems like he is going to dive even without the insulin?

If you are concerned, a token dose is fine. Safety first. He’ll recover quickly and he looks like he is coming down the dosing ladder quite quickly.
 
The 78/68 if they were taken before the shot, should be stacked up in the AMPS column:)
And the first test you take after the dose, goes in the +1 column (I would get a +1 and a +2)
 
I’m jus now seeing this. If there’s a reaction to the token dose it will likely be tonight. He will recover quickly I think.
 
Sorry, I wasn't around! You've shot a 65 which is within meter variance of 58. if you are at home and can monitor, you can shoot any number over 50 with TR.
Even with a skip or a token dose, the depot will affect the first part of the cycle which is what you are seeing.

I think I was hesitant to shoot because he's been diving so fast, and because I suspect he was below 50 in the night. Trying to mind-read, I guess. He's actually flat this morning.

I hope so. He seems to be so sensitive to insulin.

On another front, in less than a week I'll be leaving to go out of town for about 12 days and will need to start figuring out the vacation dose. When should I stop making dose changes in order to prepare for the vacation dose? Is it too early to figure out the vacation dose?
 
It’s too early to figure out a vacation dose. Ask about 3 days before you leave. Will he he tested at all? Do you think he will eat well with you away? Those are a few things to consider so think about that.

I will probably need to know a day or so earlier so I can help my catsitter to practice the new dose. When we practiced before, he was at 2u and the vet estimated that he might do well at 1u. Now that he's at 1.25, I imagine 1.0 might not work, since he really dives during some of his cycles. The cat sitter will test him before shots, but not during the cycles. He will eat fairly well. I'll ask again in a few days.
 
One suggestion for petsitters is to create a sample syringe, filled to the vacation dose with coloured liquid. That can be used as a reference for what the dose should be. The other thing you can do is reduce to what you think will be the vacation dose a couple days early, to see how he's doing on the reduced dose before you go away. I've seen more than 1 cat "fail" the vacation dose and that had to be changed to a yet lower one.

That's a great idea; I'll create the syringe. I thought I would also print out one of the pictures of the syringe from the resources here.

I would really like to start the vacation dose early. He just seems to go lower than expectations lately and I'm afraid that it will happen again when I'm not here. I'm actually going to be out of phone range for part of my trip so I want her to be absolutely confident in herself before I go.
 
He seems to coming down the dosing ladder at good speed. You can go down to 1U tomorrow morning. Because of the token dose, he may be higher for a couple of days.

Just saw the 48 on your SS! :eek: You could even try 0.75U from tomorrow.

I was shocked! I thought we were going to have a flat cycle. He really does drop when it is least expected. It makes me worry about the vacation dose.

We'll go down to 1u tomorrow morning!
