As long as you are sure he will eat for you a bit later it should be fine to give him the 1 unit.
Try and get him to eat the rest of the meal within the next hour if you can
Make sure you test again around +4 or +5 …that’s 4 or 5 hours after the dose is given to see how low the dose is taking him.
And also give him some snacks of low carb food around +3 or + 4 and +6.

Would you like some help with the spreadsheet? @Bandit's Mom
It would help us help you if you could get it up and running and enter data please.

Just wanted to add that Lantus usually onsets about 2 hours after it is given, so as long as you know Merlin will eat for you, it is fine if he doesn’t eat it all before the dose is given.
And we suggest giving a couple of snacks during every cycle (that’s each 12 hours after the dose of insulin), not just the 2 main meals .
ETA…a 5.5 oz can is very big……..1/2 can would be plenty for a main meal.

This is why so many of us use Fancy Feast (FF). It looks and smells like pig-slop but it's low in carbs and I've yet to see a cat that doesn't gobble it down. When you're down on your hands and knees begging a cat to eat this will save your sanity. Feed him something better later.

It seems that Merlin doesn't want to eat much. He only ate about quarter of the 5.5oz can this morning Try to give him some steak he did eat a few pieces. Been check his BG every two hrs because I been worried.
8:26 -350
10:36- 263
12:28-239
did eat a few pieces of steak 1:20-318
Sorry I don't have spreadsheet yet I'm working on it slowly I can't look at a screen for long time.

Nicky we are all in different time zones, so we don't use times,
For example if you tested 2 hours after giving insulin you would tell us +2
+3 means 3 hours after giving insulin
Can you tap on your name above , then tap on signature and add Freestyle Libre please , then tap Save
His numbers still look safe
What are your shooting times?
I'll tag a few members for you to be sure
Also would you like someone to set up your spreadsheet for you?

merlin first am reading was 426. What time was that?

How are things going now? That time zone information would be so helpful. How many hours since the shot was given and what is the current reading on the Libre?

I'm in central time.
It been almost 11hrs since the first dose. And the Last reading was 342.
Merlin did throw up some of his snacks which wasn't alot he ate very little today. He doesn't seem hungry. He is moving around good. Jumping on things. I am worried about give him a second dose since he's not eating. Hope he'll eat something soon.

Can diabetic cats eat in the middle of the night?

Just gave him fancy feast 3oz. He just ate maybe 3 bites of it.

Hello and welcome to FDMB! :-)
I can help set up your spreadsheet. Will send you a PM with the details I need. Look for it in the Inbox at the top right corner of this page.

It was a long road transitioning my dry food cat to wet food.

I suggest getting some salmon oil and fortiflora for cats, these are appetite stimulants to help your cat get a taste for their new food. I also hear bonito flakes work too.

Mixing in extra water with the food was also key for my cat.

My Henry does not eat anything unless I sprinkle some goodness on top: bonito flakes, fortiflora, vital essentials giblets freeze dried, Stella and chewy freeze dried, pure bites freeze dried treats, Ziwi peak air dried. Also former dry food addict. You will have to figure out a way to entice him. or give the kitty more variety
