Thankfully, Dimi seems to be hanging in there while I spend my days/nights at the hospital with my son. I run home in the mornings to give him his shot and to take a shower before heading back to the hospital. My daughter has been wonderfully managing evening injections/meals, but can't get him to cooperate in testing. The good/bad news is that we've cancelled our vacation next week, so I won't have to rely on a petsitter.

After 6 days of IV antibiotics, my son's pneumonia looks worse, rather than better, though his vital signs have improved. It's all pretty terrifying. The Doctors haven't seen this before in an 18 year old, so they are just trying different antibiotics, hoping one does the trick. Would appreciate any thoughts and prayers you are willing to send our way.

I’m just catching up. For some reason I haven’t seen your recent posts. I’m so sorry your son is so sick. Of course my thoughts and prayers are with you. I hope he starts to respond to an antibiotic today. So scary. Are they sure he never had Covid, perhaps asymptomatic? This is so unusual in a young person. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thank you, Elise. :bighug: Yes, very unusual. They've tested for COVID and Flu, both negative. Really scary that they can't explain it, and don't really know how to treat it.

You have an infectious disease doctor on the case? :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Yes, an Infectious Disease Doctor and a Pulmonologist. We're at a smaller hospital in DC and considering asking for a transfer to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD, which has an excellent reputation for Pulmonary and Critical Care. Tough decision, as current hospital is 15 min from home, and Hopkins is 1 hour 15 min, and unclear if they would be treating him any differently.

Omg scary. Praying for you both. No idea about hospitals but I am a person who loves second and third opinions. Maybe ask your family doctor what he thinks about maybe moving him. If this hospital cannot explain it maybe the other can. Tough decision. Both your son and Dimi are lucky to have such a wonderful mom. Sending hugs and more prayers your way.:bighug::bighug::bighug:
