previous vomiting episode

it’s been two weeks since we went through this, nearly the same thing happening today.

  • Vomited 3x between amps and +8ish
  • Only time he’s licking lips is right after puking or after eating churu
  • Gave 3/4 pill cerenia about +10.5
  • Hasn’t vomited since
  • Amps 292 +6 265 +11 329( I’m sure the pill battle of 2022 helped increase numbers too plus he got a small piece of cheese as a final attempt to get it down) pmps 306 +1 416
  • He has been drinking water throughout day but no I have not seen him go to litter to get a keytone test.
My poor guy is just miserable. He’s just curled up sleeping/lethargic and not really doing much of anything now. I’m not sure the cerenia helped or not, he didn’t puke up the tube so I guess that is a positive but he’s not getting better like last time.

what should I be watching out for? Will make appointment for vet tomorrow but what do I do if his numbers keep climbing and he keeps being lethargic and not eating other than tubes?

Were you ever able to get ondansetron? You might need to try it along with cerenia. Was he tested last time for pancreatitis? I’d test for it and possibly get fluids to give at home if any sign of dehydration and buprenorphine for pain. If he continues like this he definitely needs to see a vet tomorrow. This could be an acute episode. :bighug:

Looks like another pancreatitis flare. Poor boy.
yes it does seem that way he’s worse this time though

no, he has never been tested and on the 1st he was all better so I cancelled appointment as suggested the results would be negative anyway. They won’t give prescription without a visit first, I am giving him his brothers cerenia because they would not write a prescription for Juggie until they give him an exam.

Yes we will definitely make and keep an appointment tomorrow as once I could check up to maybe eating something bad or whatever but twice is a real problem. I read the link on pancreatitis you gave me last time and totally sounds like Juggie.

anything I should be watching for? Anything that would require trip to emergency? Kinda freaked out right now. I carried him and put him in litter box hoping to test keytones but apparently he just had to I then put him in front of his water fountain and after lying on ground (like he did before diagnosis when he drank like a fish) but just staring at it, he finally had a little bit of water. I haven’t seen him drink since before giving cerenia at +10.5 (it’s now +2)

It sounds like nausea. I believe I told you not to keep the last appointment because he was no longer symptomatic. Tomorrow get the SpecfPL test. Ask for cerenia and ondansetron. Fluids might bd a good idea and bupe for pain. Unless he keeps vomiting water and food I don’t think you need the ER. Let us know what the vet says.

Ok will do. He hasn’t vomited for about 5 hours now, since the cerenia pill. How much approx is the ondansetroN here in Canada? You said it was super pricy so need to prepare.

Even the generic can set you back $4 per 4mg pill in BC. Your kitty would need approximately 4mg dose 2-3 times a day. Hopefully only short term to get him kick started eating again. You might want to do an online search of pharmacies. I've seen one that charged closer to $5 per pill. Needless to say I don't go there.

Thanks. That’s a lot. Will be sure to get generic. Booking apt now

Update:
@Wendy&Neko @tiffmaxee

I stayed up until 2am which is when Juggie finally started eating food again. When I woke up to go to work he had eaten all the food I left for him.

my daughter and mom took him to vet with all the notes I had jotted down. Of course he was 100% better and his normal self.
- did not do the specfPL test because she wants to do an ultrasound to “really see what’s going on on the inside and rule out a few things” (her words)
- we already have a cerenia prescription for jack so she just gave us more for both cats to use as needed but not the ondansetrone (I can’t remember exactly why but had to do with waiting until after ultrasound)
- Juggie is 100% better, he wasn’t dehydrated so didn’t need fluids.

we have an ultrasound appointment, I thought she said June 21 on phone but the paper they came home with says July 21. Is a month a usual time to wait for a non emergency ultrasound appointment ?? I’ll call and confirm tomorrow.

A month is not too long to wait fir an ultrasound. The blood test would have been a good idea because he might just be non symptomatic because of the cerenia. Oh well. Chronic pancreatitis comes and goes. I am glad cerenia is working.

So I read ultrasound info and it’s for Tues July 21 so obviously receptionist made a typo as July 21 is a thurs. She did say to pay attention to his behaviour after the 24hr mark when cerenia is wearing off and if anything is concerning to call. It’s so hard to relay info and give and take feedback when I’m not able to be there and I’m relying on others to relay what I ask or suggest.

It is hard when you are not there yourself I am sure. When Max was on either nausea medication I did not stop it until all was normal for a few days and then I slowly increased the time between doses and then stopped if all was normal. He was sometimes on ondansetron or cerenia fora month or more if I decreased and his appetite decreased.

after ultrasound when she gives him an actual diagnosis I will actually take time off work to sit down with her and come up with a good plan for Juggie moving forward.
