Jill, Merlin has been on insulin for less than 3 weeks. Most cats take a lot longer to start coming down into green or even blue numbers. Is Merlin changing his pattern now? Is this because of the new higher carb meal and +1 snack? Is this going to last, or is it just a whim? Will this guy ever be pinned down into a manageable schedule that doesn’t leave me frazzled? How will this all turn out and HOW LONG will it be? Will I have to keep cancelling my morning doctor’s appointments eternally?Nobody knows. How could we?

I was not counting the first hour because he went up. But I will start adding it up from 0 now, no matter what, if that’s better. If you look at the pre shot of 205 and the +3 of 95 he has really only dropped 110 in 3 hours.
That number scares me. Is it ok? Feed??
Yes you can feed some low carb food.Which carb to feed?
He does respond to some low carb food well. And that’s good to know.79@+3.5
We will test at +4 and then go hourly. He is going up from the 63 now, but we need to feed him to keep him in the green. Feed at the scheduled +4 very lc, 1.9.He does respond to some low carb food well. And that’s good to know.
So what will you do now?
You don’t have to feed him to keep him in the green. You have just fed him. That should last a while. We feed to stop them dropping too low and to be able to surf in the green. If we overfeed, we will send them back into the blue. The longer he can stay in the green the better it is for his pancreas and is getting him used to the normal numbers again and hopefully reduce the bouncing……We will test at +4 and then go hourly. Yes I think that’s a good idea.Actually, we are coming up on +4, and he just ate. Maybe wait til +5 to feed the scheduled snack.
Did you divide the main meal and the snacks up as part of the allocated food?Is 8 g (a large spoon) the amount of food I should be feeding him for snacks? He would love to have a little more lc than he is getting in a helping when he is in green sometimes, maybe 10 g?
Yes. We weigh the food. It’s always 8 g, these days. A rounded teaspoon. But we could feed more, if the food he has had in that cycle doesn’t total the allocated amount? Sometimes we skip the second helping snack.Did you divide the main meal and the snacks up as part of the allocated food?
What type of spoon?
I think for snacks you could give a bit more. It is given routinely and is part of every cycle.Yes. We weigh the food. It’s always 8 g, these days. A rounded teaspoon.
The first scheduled +1 is kind of both, I think. I guess stick to 8 g for that. The +4 is more flexible then.I think for snacks you could give a bit more. It is given routinely and is part of every cycle.
But for when you are giving some food to raise the BG we usually say a teaspoon.
The first scheduled one is a snack and is part of the allocated daily food. We have just chosen to give the first one at +1 to slow down the drop. Some people do that. So I would make that a snack size meal. The first scheduled +1 is kind of both, I think. I guess stick to 8 g for that. The +4 is more flexible then.
Isn’t it awesome, Kyle. I think he has a good chance.look at those nice greens on only .10 IU! wow thats awesome
But you fed it just a bit later since he was still not budging at +1.Fed scheduled +1 snack of 8 g of 7%
Yes, fed it at +1.75, just before testing at +2.But you fed it just a bit later since he was still not budging at +1.
