Hi Adam been diabetic over 2 years now. We have used Pro Zinc and now getting Basaglar sent from Mark's Marine and it will be here Monday. I got new syringes yesterday U100 which Chris told me which ones to get . Is there anything else I need to know ? Do I need to start at a lower dose then 1 1/2 U when switching Also do you roll the pens ? I don't think so but not sure. Any other help is greatly appreciated . Yes I know I haven't used the spreadsheet . I do write his numbers down in a little booklet though . I just never have really used the spreadsheet.

Hi Welcome to the LLB! Glad to have you aboard.

I have been told do not roll the pens

far as dosing, I'll let someone else answer, sorry to say I don't know anything about switching from ProZinc

We are using Basaglar from Mark's and it's working well. I'm not sure if this differs from ProZinc but with Lantus and biosimilars like Basaglar you test, feed and shoot all within a 10-15 minute window, ideally

  • test BG to make sure it's safe to shoot
  • feed to get some food on board for the insulin
  • shoot the insulin
all within a 10-15 minute window

Welcome to LLB. In order to help with dosing we need to see a spreadsheet. I see you joined in 2020 so would you add the link to your spreadsheet as well as any pertinent information to your signature? In general terms you would give the same dose but in some cases the ss suggests a slightly lower dose.

That's how we give Pro Zinc also . Adam has always been a great eater. If your on the FB page he is the one who eats Glazed donuts , baked ziti , dog food and has learned how to open the pantry door !

I tried to make a new spreadsheet and add it to my signature. Not sure I did it right or if you can see it. We got the insulin today. I added onto the spreadsheet a curve I did on 4/19/2022 on a couple of the days if you see NT its when my husband was helping me. I dont always feel well as I have Meniers Disease and Adam dosent like him testing and fights him.

I can see the link, but nothing happens when I click on it. I'll tag Bhooma, @Bandit's Mom who might be able to help you when she's up (other side of the world time zone).

Sorry, not yet. It's as if the contents of the link aren't right. So there's a hyperlink, but what it points to isn't working.

I think I got it. Now I know why I dont like making new spreadsheets. I added it to my signature. I hope this one works. I dont know what dose to start him at in the morning ?

Instead of starting Basaglar tomorrow, how about doing a curve? And is it possible to get a test at night before you go to bed? Many cats go lower at night. I can't tell from just preshot data how low the 1.5 units of Prozinc is taking him. We determine how to change doses based on how low the dose is taking the cat, and when switching we take that into consideration.

I could do a cuve but not sure if I have enough insuiln at this point. Its almost nothing left in the bottle. My other thought is start him at 1 unit and keep testing throughout the day. I test him 10:30 am and 10:30 pm I need to do more during the day but I am dealing with health issues and sometimes its hard to walk let alone test him but I must do better for Mr. Chubs

Could you check to see if you can pull 3U out so you'd know if you have enough for tonight and in the morning so you could do a curve tomorrow during the day? (I'm thinking you probably don't want to stay up all night testing every 2 hours tonight)

I think it would be OK to put the insulin back in the vial this one time

If you don't have enough insulin for a curve, then I'd go to 1.25 units, not as far back as 1.0 units of Lantus. You did do a curve on 1.25 units and just saw the upper blue.
