2-25 Leo AMPS 325/ +2 180/ PMPS 502/ +2 352

"Hold the dose for 3 - 5 days (6 - 10 consecutive cycles) if nadirs are less than 200 before increasing the dose by 0.25 unit.

• if your cat is new to numbers under 200, it is recommended to hold the dose for at least 8-10 cycles before increasing.
• when your cat starts to see nadirs under 100, hold the dose for at least 10 cycles before increasing."

So get a next two hour when BG drops to a certain level?
Yes. The aim of tests is to (a) keep the cat safe and (b) figure out how low a dose is taking the cat so that dose changes can be made. In cycles where there is "action" - sharp drops, lower numbers etc, you want to test more to see how low the BG goes.

A test at +2 can act like a crystal ball of what the rest of the cycle is going to look like.
  • If the +2 is about the same as the PS, it's usually going to be a pretty normal cycle - gradually down to nadir and then gradually back up to the next PS.
  • If the +2 is a lot higher than the PS, that usually means there's a bounce starting and it's usually OK to take a little bit of a break from testing.
  • If the +2 is (a lot) lower than the PS, that's your early warning that it could be an "active" cycle and numbers might go a lot lower later in the cycle and it's important to try to get more tests.
Of course, some cats have an onset later in the cycle like +2.5 or +3. In that case, a test at +2.5 or +3 would be a better indicator than a +2.

Looks like the .75U dose is held, if I'm reading this correctly....

• Increase by 0.25 unit after 3 days (6 consecutive cycles) if nadirs are greater than 200, but less than 300.
• Increase by 0.5 unit after 3 days (6 consecutive cycles) if nadirs are greater than 300."

Thank you for such critical points!

I wonder if the BGs of 2/16 even mean anything for today/now. I notice after the blue BG, the PMPS went way high.

But yes, I can see where BG needs to be closely monitored.

Is a +2 and +3 or other BG recommended for tonight (after PM shot)?

Things change too fast in feline diabetes for numbers or doses of 2 weeks back to matter. But yes, past data is useful in spotting patterns and learning how he responds to insulin - his onset, nadir, carb sensitivity, how soon he reacts to a dose increase etc.

Newly diagnosed cats can be pretty bouncy. Can shoot up a couple of hundred points (or more) in as many hours. The black tonight is a response to a lower number today. Some cats also go high before they break the bounce and head lower.

Yes, with TR you want to get at least one test in each cycle. He will most probably be bouncing tonight, but you want to get a test before bed.

I will. Thank you!!!

With +2 after PM shot at 352, is a +3 needed/helpful?

This last bit of 50 strips had two a few days ago that were duds, and tonight it wasn't until the 5th strip before it worked, as it normally does. Grrrr. Does that happen sometimes?

Thanks! Leo gets a break, too!

A 'dud' meaning it never takes up the blood. l've gone through many of these strips and six already in this package?
