PMPS 152- Need help with dosing

Don't fill him up at shot time. You may need to feed him a little every hour.
I would feed a spoon of food at +1 as well and test at +2.

Do you have enough strips, high carb food etc?
 
LC is fine. You would give HC only if he dips below 50. Feeding a little LC every hour or every test will help.
 
Sorry I was so worried in what to do that I didn't put nothing more in the title or the link to the previous post from yesterday.

At + 2 - 202...
and still sleeping but this is the usual him.
He usually wakes at plus + 3, when I give him food before bed...
 
He is very unpredictable I will test him again + 3 (give him food), then I test him again +5 and see... what are his plans :)
What do you think?
 
If the +3 stays higher, and you are giving him his snack, I can't see him drastically changing direction. It likely will be a bounce starting if he's higher. For most cats on Lantus the +2 or +3 is often a good indication of how the cycle will go. Take for example, a couple of nights ago where he came down from preshot to +2, that warranted further monitoring.

That said, since you are new to Lantus and getting a feel for how the insulin is working for Wolvi, you can always get that +5 if you are awake and curious :)

You don't have a lot of +1s, but usually they don't get much more than a 30 point bump from food, then by +2 it is similar to the PS number or lower. So with the +2 being higher, and especially the +3 being even higher than that, it's a bounce and you can get some sleep. The insulin usually starts to work by +2 or +3.

You've been doing the right thing at night - his +2/+3 have all been flat or drops, and that warrants another check in a few hours (depending on the size of the drop)

This is where Lantus is different from ProZinc - ProZinc can still cut through those higher numbers and bring him down. Lantus usually does not.

You’re most welcome, I’m happy to help. It takes time to get a feel for patterns, you’ll get there. And just when you think you have your cat figured out, they will throw you a curve ball just to see if you are paying attention! Good night.

I think the most difficult thing about switching from prozinc is forgetting it.

Being that it’s slow to onset, remember that with Lantus you aren’t shooting the PS number, you are shooting a number 2 or 3 hours into the cycle, when onset typically occurs.

You too can learn to interpret your cats cycles. Start with identifying onset, nadir and duration.
