Hey everyone! My Tabby girl just switched to Lantus after only 2 weeks on Vetsulin and with her food changes seems to be improving. Also, she is being treated for a UTI so I think her numbers were negatively effected by the infection. Question: this AM two hrs after feeding and 12 hr after last insulin her BG was 221 so I did not give her the insulin. Whats the general rule of thumb re: when to give and when not to give? Sorry I have been reading so much I just need someone to tell me this :/
THANKS A MILLION!

When first starting out we say over 200 is safe to shoot buuutttt:

How long has it been since food change was completed? What was her old food and what's the new food?

I also see she started antibiotics.

Combination of all of that means need to be a little more careful.

At this point, since no ketones/DKA, these skipped shots, and the LC diet I would go to 0.5U and try to stick with that if 200 or above. If below 200 stall without feeding and ask for help.

Since you're up and running now feel free to post in the Lantus forum.

If you can be off schedule I'd give the 0.5U now. To get back on schedule you can either move each shot back by 15 minutes, or one shot a day back by 30 mins

The vet said to skip it but I will go over to the Lantus forum. Thanks for this! I will re-check her BG at +3 to see how she is doing with no insulin. I am scared to cause a crash!! But will give tonight if BG is up but I will go down to .5 instead of 1 or even .75. So appreciate your help!!!

I just did a +3 reading on two different BG monitors because I don't like the AlphaTrax2...the strips don't "suck" up the blood. So on the AlphaTrax2 her BG was 438 and on the CVS health human monitor it was 371...

That's pretty much the same considering meter variance, I wouldnt overanalyze
