First pink AMPS ever! I think with some extra effort last night we staved off a dive and bounce, fed late night LC snack, fed much more over first 4 hours of cycle than we typically do and I think it helped.

Brekky was half LC half MC (0% and 10%). Will do a +2 or +3

Yesterday's 8-poke day looked better to me before I did this:

If you are already a bit wound up anticipating a tough time, some people find humming or singing helps to relax you, which carries over to the cat. I know it sounds silly, but if you are wound up about the testing, the cat feels it.

Learning how to relax myself enough to do the test was a real challenge at the beginning. I sang "You are my sunshine" to Ruby as I was doing it, and even found a great version sung by Johnny Cash to play and sing along to while I did it. Ruby seemed to like it too. :)

Ok don't laugh but based on these suggestions I have begun singing/humming a tune:

"Let's warm the left ear up, we'll leave the right ear out
We do the Hendrick pokey and we get a blood drop out"

(Lyrics modified depending on which ear we are stabbing)

It definitely helps...maybe me more than him, ha. Thanks to you both :)

Hi.
My name is Clara and your cat is beautiful.
when i changed macho to raw food his number improved.
we tried with different kinds of can food for over a year and nothing.
Until my brother and i decided to try raw and was night and day.
now we give him raw and we also have primal or stella and chewy.
good luck to you and handsome Hendrick!

can I ask what raw food specifically?

thanks, I'll basically try anything that helps my buddy Hendrick

he just won't eat pate, full stop. Or thin shredded cat food. He needs bigger chunks and we are trying lots of different types of food as we search for a LC chunky food he'll eat well that also has good protein/fat balance. This may just be a winner

Do you always rehydrate the Primal? I would think so or else, seems like it would be just like dry kibble and take away moisture from the kitty instead of adding it

I put some water on primal or stella. and when i want to give a treat i just break it in 2 or more and give it to him like kibble. He even gained weight so just be mindful. Now we count 10 pieces for am and 10 pieces for pm. Before we used a measuring cup but he got fat (gained 3 pounds).

you know your boy, so just try to trick him. break it in little pieces and put some dry (without water) and with water just little since he is picky.

Macho will do anything for primal or chewy. he goes nuts every-time we touch that bag.

since we changed to raw Macho went from 6 units and now 2.5!

I feed my two frozen Primal and Small Batch. The freeze dried does need to be rehydrated. It’s more expensive to use only freeze dried but you could try it first and see if Hendricks will eat it. My sugar kitty was picky but became less so with diabetes.

Making your own food will allow you to give him the chunks he likes. You could also buy chicken thighs and put a few raw pieces in his food and see if he likes it to get him used to raw.

The food change helped Macho but he also had to break through glucose toxicity to get so regulated. They worked really hard and it’s paying off. It didn’t happen over night. Take a look at their spreadsheets. We are all so proud of them.

Yes you did awesome and I'm so proud of you both!

We plan to test again at PMPS but otherwise give his ears a break this afternoon since we murdered them yesterday, ha. He had a mc snack at +4/5. If we really both start posting here I don't know if this is going to work lol. Maybe separate accounts be better? Idk.

After looking at his +2 and +4 today I changed my mind and we did a +9 just now: 268

staying yellow today! Although, it is probably reasonable to assume he dipped into the blues around +5-6 as that is where he typically nadirs, I think

3 hours to go until next dose, so I suspect we'll see 400s unfortunately.

And just to let you know @Hendrick's mom and dad, Macho's caregivers @Garciacat are primarily Clara and Al, who are 9 and 13 years old (Al, please correct me if I am wrong.) They have had a long journey of taking care of Macho, giving up time to play outside just to take care of him. Macho looks like he is getting regulated lately. They are incredible role models for all of us!
yes, it was worth it.
thank you all of you for your help.

I love the consistency of your spreadsheet, pretty much always getting +2's, but also then sprinkling in BG tests at every other time of day, no stone unturned. Very impressive, I love it. I am going to do the same thing, make the morning +2 as regular thing a thing as possible, and in the evening maybe +3 instead, but do it every night it is possible to do so. We are only just beginning to get some good data points this past week, and particularly the past few days so it will take a while to get such a nice looking SS as you have. But I am going to try!

Yes, much better than those red/black starts Hopefully the feeding plan and the new testing plan will help you find your way to an increase soon and some lowering and leveling numbers.

A 2+ is just about a given while on Lantus as it takes about two hours for Lantus to 'kick in'. Mid-cycle is when the insulin reaches it's max potential...pre-shots are to determine if it's safe to give insulin. I usually always try for a 2+ unless something has gotten in the way (like my schedule sometimes doesn't agree with that plan)...but it's my goal. I'm always interested to see which way Luci might be heading so I can plan my day a little better. And yes, often my day does revolve around Luci's BG's...if she's rushing down I'll set a timer to remind me to test her again in an hour or 90 minutes - based on the numbers. It's a good way to get an idea of how the insulin is impacting your kitty...and hopefully soon you'll start seeing some great results. :)

How old is he?

Too funny. I like that song!

well, 385. I'll take it, considering how often we've been seeing reds and blacks at PMPS. The split meal deal and the little snacks seem to be working right now to flatten things out. Can't thank you enough @FrostD (and everyone else too!)
Most welcome. Glad it's working out!

315 isn't too big of a drop, so a +4 or +5 would be fine for curiosity's sake.
