Just got home from work. Waiting for PMPS. DBF had to leave the house after +6 today. Apparently Miss Ruby did not eat much. I was surprised to see her so high. I stopped the gabapentin after the constipation got worse as a consequence. She seemed to be more herself when I didn't give it to her--she was hiding a lot, resisted testing and generally seemed zoned out. Adequan arriving in the mail on Tuesday. Not a moment too soon.

I used to give Sheba cartrophen which is similar to adequate and can highly recommend it. She would have a course of 1 injection a week for 4 weeks then monthly. Definitely worth it.
Seems like there are lots of different protocols for administering this kind of thing. Were you ever concerned about liver issues? Ruby's already got elevated liver values from the pred. Ruby will be seeing her oncologist on Wednesday, so maybe I should hold off on giving her the Adequan until we see her.

No i don’t think Sheba got elevated liver values from the Cartrophen but I think it’s a good idea to ask the oncologist first.

Pred is recommended for treating arthritis, but I see no mention of Adequan being used with it when I search on the web. Her primary DVM who prescribed the Adequan knows she is on pred, but she is not an oncologist who sees imunosupressed animals all the time. Thank you, Bron. :bighug:

Civvie Theo (Neko's buddy) was on pred for SCL and taking Cartrophen. It didn't inflate his liver values. In fact, my pred kitties tended to have slightly lower liver values. Neko also got Cartrophen, but that was with budesonide. No liver issues with her.

Hi Katherine,
You may remember me praising Adequan in the past. It is a disease modifying agent, which means it is doing more than covering up pain. Tina was on metacam (detested NSAID) for over a year (along with Gabapentin). My goal was getting off the metacam. Adequan did that for us. She also continued 25mg Gabapentin, down from 50mg BID.

Many vets love Adequan for cats, and a lot seem to still think it’s Only for dogs, since that’s how it’s labeled. Thankfully, the third vet I asked happily said yes.
Go RUBY!

One year of Adequan about 130 dollars. That included twice a week loading dose, and we continued every other week .25ml which equals 25 units in your U100 insulin syringe!

It takes about a month for good help - don’t abruptly stop the gaba. Sending great wishes.
