12/21 jade amps 284 pmps 415

I think the reason why your vet says not to test is because she’s content to keep Jade in higher numbers. Is your goal remission? If so this isn’t going to get you there. If you goal is regulation and staying under renal threshold you still are above that. Are you checking for ketones and sugar in her urine? The test strips will check for both. I know it’s hard for you to take her to the vet. My cats have all dreaded it but once there the vets could handle them easily. Tiffany used to pee on me when I finally caught her.

The goal is regulation, I believe. I've been told that a second remission is pretty unlikely. Tomorrow, I will increase to 1U. What do you suggest I do for better #'s? I cannot do TR and I cannot take her in for regular vet visits. To say it stresses her out is an understatement.
I've been doing everything that I've been advised to do here following SLGS. I would be fine if all that happened when I took Jade into the vet was to be peed on. She is terrified to the point of trembling and panting and as I have mentioned many times, the smallest bit of anti anxiety meds knock her out for days. I don't know what else I'm supposed to be doing here?

I do have strips that I can try to get a reading from if I can get to her when she's peeing. I don't think my vet wants to keep her numbers high, she very much focuses on behavior over the numbers tho. Should I go higher than 1U tomorrow? I'm trying to follow the SLGS but will bump her up to 1.25 if that's what's recommended to help Jade.

Max almost never reacted to lower numbers other than sometimes being more hungry. If I had not tested I never would have known when he was under 50 or even 40. With ckd you can’t even judge by how many times she visits the litter box. What behavior would guide you?

I asked my vet about CKD when we spoke last time. She said she’s in stage 2 and that her number had not changed since March of 2021. They checked her ketones at the vet with a stick test a few weeks ago and there were none in her urine.
I have the test strips but have never used them.
Vet (in home) is the one that is very behavior focused. Is Jade eating, drinking, playing, peeing and pooping as usual etc….

Sorry. Got it. Good she was checked for ketones. I was just thinking back to your concern about having the vet come and not like how you are doing things.

Oh she definitely doesn’t like how I’m doing things! If she knew I was on here and not following her instructions this whole time, she’d drop us. No question. She thinks Jade has been on 1U with minimal testing this entire time. I hate lying but I feel I have no other options.

Just did a test strip. Everything is normal except for the glucose ( she’s at 381 @+3)
I really hope 1U helps her.

Jill. You can test ketones using a blood ketone meter. It is just like a glucose meter in the way that you test, but uses a different strip. I used the Nova Max blood ketone meter. The strips are expensive but worth it when your cat is in high numbers.
It’s obvious from her ss that Jade needs more insulin. I hope the increase will help her into safer, healthier numbers. Those pinks and high yellows will only damage her. Good luck with the new dose.

I’m doing everything the way I’m supposed to be on SLGS. I don’t know what else to do?

Is there something more I can be doing for her if I’m following SLGS ( which I have to follow because of schedule issues)?

It’s okay, Jill. You will find a better dose for her on SLGS. I am sure of it. I get worried seeing those high numbers. I know you do too! Hang in there!
Thank you for that.:bighug: I’m starting to feel really responsible for her high numbers. Like I’m doing something wrong or not doing enough for her. I get worried when I see the high numbers also. I just want my girl to be happy and comfortable.

You will get her there. I just hope she can get to a point of at least blues and no more than high yellows occasionally (below the kidney threshold.) But you have to follow the protocol, of course.
