Diabetes is back after 7 years, despite the carnivore diet

Our tomcat is 14 years old.

In 2016 he suddenly became diabetic. After almost 6 months of insulin, special vet food... he miraculously got better after only a few days on raw farm chicken.
For over 5 years his glucose levels were fine, whether he ate raw or cooked (her prefers the latter). We noticed that when he eats raw chicken he gets a bit itchy.

I noticed a few weeks ago that he was more agitated when the breakfast/dinner time comes. He would sometimes "complain" after eating or eat smaller portions, make a pause, then come back to finish his meal. He would sometimes meow in the middle of the night. I checked his glucose levels and everything was fine. Until a week ago.

His glucose levels were between 291-341 for a few days. At the vet's last week, they did the blood fructosamine test and it was fine. Their test also showed glucose levels above 300 but all the other parameters were fine (kidneys, liver...). I'm seeing them again in 5 days, when they will redo the test and I'll ask them to check our cat's thyroid. He's otherwise in great health, the vet said.

Needles to say I have no idea where this came from!
He's been acting as usual. Even the above mentioned occasional "complaining" has lessened. There was no specific stress that he went through. He had no injuries, he eats and goes to the toilet normally. We go to the countryside twice a month, and he loves it there. He's active.

I would be very grateful if you could tell me what other tests we should do or if there's anything we should be looking for.
I have a feeling that maybe we still have a chance to turn this thing around.

Thank you!!!!

p.s. I don't know if cats can absorb the negative energy if humans around them are stressed... We had a rough couple of weeks. A dear friend of ours passed away after a few weeks in hospice. We spent a lot of time with him and needles to say are devastated.

My cats remission ended when she developed acromegaly. Many cats come out of remission because of infection such as dental issues or a uti.

Can you post a copy of the latest lab reports?

Thank you so much for your reply!
I guess I'll have to ask for pituitary check up.
For now he hasn't shown any signs of UTI. But I guess the vet would have to check.

I'll try to upload the scan of his labs.

I am sorry your kitty has fallen out of remission…..some cats do. My Sheba was in remission for almost three years and then fell out of remission and needed insulin again.
Have you had his teeth checked.? That is often a cause for falling out of remission.

The vet said his teeth were fine. Some tartar, but nothing that would require a cleaning procedure.

I don't see anything glaring on the report. He hasn't had any steroids lately?
Oh god no!
Before he was diagnosed, a vet gave him a long lasting cortisol shot to deal with his ear scratching. He completely ignored me asking about the diabetes and signaling an acetone smell... I wish I hadn't let him :(
Thank for the idea. It's always good to check.
